how to restore Signal chat backup on a new phone | how to use signal app

i will show you how to restore backedup chat on signal from an online server, i will assume you bought a new phone and want to restore previous chat from an old phone to a new one, so i will have to clear all the stored conversation and uninstall the signal app the delete every signal app folder then download the backup from dropbox and then restore all the old chat including the photos and videos to the new phone.

Note you need to have access to old backed up chat, you need to have the passphrase close also to be able to restore the back up, without these you will not be able to restore the back up.

Thank you, works as described! You cannot however restore the backup file from a network location like Dropbox or Google Drive. You have to copy it to your new phone and restore it locally.

8:15 - it didn't work, it just asks for the phone number again and does not say restore backup.
Absolute hell to restore to the new phone. In the end I figure how to do it using the transfer feature:
1. Delete app data from the NEW phone only, as suggested in this video
2. Go to Signal in the new phone. There will be 2 options, the lower one is restore. Choose Android transfer feature not the file restore feature.
3. Go to the old phone. Go to accounts and then transfer. Bluetooth or NFT may need to be on on both phones for this to work.
By doing this you put the old phone into transfer mode and the new phone into restore mode. Awful though. Why can't they just put the restore button in the settings next to transfer! Who on earth would think to restore the app data??
The people who make Signal can't think properly.

I backed up my Signal account on October 2nd.
Then I saved it in Google Drive.
And today when I uninstalled Signal and downloaded it. When I was restoring the backup, at last it was showing "Backup contains malformed data" as I uploaded the picture.
