Donna Summer ~ The Wanderer 1980 Disco Purrfection Version
Показать описание
Donna Summer's album, "The Wanderer" from 1980 pretty much summed up the times. Disco was "dead", rock was making a comeback, but New Wave had learned much from disco and the usage of synthesizers became de riguer for any artists in the 80's. On second listen, the vocals on "The Wanderer" sound like rock-a-billy over a new wave synth line, similar to Rocky Burnette's "Tired of Toein' The Line" single that same year. Everyone was looking for the next thing, and Donna creatively responded with the rock oriented LP "The Wanderer", an unexpectedly eclectic and hard hitting collection of deeply personal songs from the Summer-Moroder-Bellotte hit machine. The title tune peaked at #3 proving that the world still wanted to hear from Donna. The second charting single was "Cold Love", a hot synth rocker that was a comfortable fit for her vocals, but it peaked at #33. Perhaps the weak chart performance was due to the simultaneous Casablanca release of "Walk Away" from her 1979 "Bad Girls" LP that stole some of the thunder from her newer offerings. It was a desperate but not unsuccessful move for the bankrupting label. Her next project was the still born "I'm A Rainbow" double LP of 1981 that was shelved in favor of pairing her with the then hotter than God producer, Quincy Jones for her second "Donna Summer" LP with "Love Is In Control (Finger On The Trigger). A single from that still born LP, "Romeo", appeared on the "Flashdance" LP and was a similarly styled beat heavy new wave synth rocker.
