What is Subglottic Suctioning?Secretions and aspirated material can collect above the inflated cuff on a tracheotomy tube or endotracheal tube. To prevent these substances from dropping down into the lungs, a special suction device is used called subglottic suctioning. In order to use subglottic suctioning, special endotracheal tubes and tracheotomy tubes are needed. These have a small hole in the shaft of the tube just above the cuff which allows for the suction catheter to enter the airway. A channel runs up the endotracheal or tracheostomy tube and exits the airway. Once engaged, the suction will remove the secretions which have pooled above the cuff. #lifewithavent #tracheostomy

Hi lovely vent lady💗 I always find your video's interesting, if your a person that knows nothing about a trach & vent you would not realise what has to be done to keep a person breathing! It's not just sticking in a trach & connecting to a vent but it's a combination of things that could go wrong like your airway being full of mucus, or even the ventilator failing! Each day I thank God you are ok as you & your family have been through so much & your faith tested! Your smile lights up a room! Thank you for sharing your journey 💗💗💗

These videos are wonderful. So much better than trying to learn from manuals.
