As a former 3rd grade teacher with 12+ years of experience with children, let me say you are doing EXACTLY RIGHT in keeping him stocked on the books that he likes and can read and enjoy himself. You can always teach a child to read higher grade level books as they get older…you can’t teach a love of reading. It’s more important for him to love reading at whatever level he’s at than to be at a certain point by a certain time and HATE reading. 🤗 I wish more parents would understand this!

My son is 31 and is on the autism spectrum also, and if it wasn’t for Dr. Seuss books, he would have spoke even later than he did. All that rhyming was key. Richard Scarry was great too to learn objects. My daughter loved a classic, Good Night Moon! Eric Carle was awesome for my other kids too! I had tons of Golden Books when I was a kid myself lol!

I LOVE the Pokey Little Puppy!! My mom read that, Where the Wild Things Are, Where is My Car, Old Hat New Har (and other berenstain bears), abd all the Dr. Seuss books all the time! Obsessed.

As a K-12 special education teacher & reading specialist - I love this video, hearing about your kids, and learning about the books they love! I'm so glad both your son & daughter like books... although with you as their mom, I would think it would be pretty hard for them not to!

I loved those Dragon books! Great video. I agree; it’s better to have books that kids enjoy reading vs trying to push to get them to catch up to their peers and possibly make them hate reading in the process. My mom would make sure our bookshelves were stocked full and always taking my siblings and I to the library at least every other week. I credit my love of reading to her and Reading Rainbow lol.

This is so fun to watch! My oldest daughter is 4 and she loves so many of the ones you mentioned. Some of her other favorites worth checking out are Tiny T. Rex books by Jonathan Stutzman, Knight Owl by Christopher Denise, and the Magical Pet Shop series by Matilda Rose! They’re so cute.

What a great video. I am guardian to someone who has Cerebral Palsy with mental handicap as well. So she's 45 but has the mind of a very young child. she LOVES for me to read to her and we have a huge bookshelf full of books. Thanks for all these recommendations. We too love seasonal books.

I recommend the 'That's Not My' series for younger readers. My daughter who is nearly 4 has ASD and we suspect may be a year or so behind for her reading & educational needs & she still loves those board books. They definitely help to learn the words for textures.

Loved this video!! Thank you for sharing. I would LOVE to see you film a seasonal book video. Even just showing all the seasonal books you own. I also have a ton of seasonal books and would love a look at yours to see any I've never heard of to get ideas!! I'm a subscriber and came originally for your adult content but this was enjoyable and helpful!

Loving this video. I love seasonal books too, I think I have a ton of Christmas books.
I have the bi-lingual version of the Curious George book you held up. My kiddo is getting into Curious George, he loves Pete The Cat, The Berenstain Bears, and Little Critter too.

I love these types of videos being a mom of two and used to work with children in the daycare setting. It has helped to have a variety of books to look at.

So many good book recommendations! My son is 4 and ASD as well. I love following his interests with books. His recent interest has been between planets and sea animals. Do I completely go overboard on seasonal kids books as well ... absolutely! 😂

I remember reading "Mewtwo Strikes Back" which is a Pokémon one that was a Golden Book and I would reread it allll the time as a kid. Sadly it got so destroyed that it had to be thrown away. I wish I still had it tbh.

Love this video!! Your kids shelf looks just like mine 😊 I feel like us reader mom's have to pass on the love for reading and books to our kids! We love a lof of those same books. I have a 7 year old son and we currently love The Bad Guys graphic novel series by Aaron Blabey. I love the story as much as my son does, highly recommend checking it out!
