Vietnam has been hit hard by Asia’s strongest typhoon yet this year. Super typhoon Yagi reportedly caused heavy damage in northern regions of the country, killing more than 50 people and injuring another 299. Strong winds toppled structures and heavy rains triggered floods and landslides as the storm made landfall in Vietnam on September 7, 2024. Yagi also slammed into China's island province of Hainan, where the storm claimed four lives and forced over 410,000 to flee their homes.

I live near an apartment complex and close to a lake in Hanoi. The day after the storm, I got out and saw a ton of tree knocked down by the wind, including a few hundred 100-year-old-or-more trees. My dad's parking place's roof got knocked down by the wind, but luckily his car wasn't there at that moment. My school got an uprooted tree.
And I saw that Hai Phong and Quang Ninh got disconnected. Province-wide power outage rendered the mobile communication unusable. It feels like apolycase.
But that is just the first half. The aftermath is more terrible. There is already a deadly dam failure and some landslides. Hope everything get well soon.

My neighborhood have never seen such devastation, probably since the last war 50 years ago. House roofs ripped apart, tree fallen along the street, garbage everywhere. Such a mess, but we are so lucky that we're still alive. Many other unfortunate Vietnamese didn't make it through the storm and its aftermath, mostly killed in flash flood and landslide. My heart and mind are praying for our compatriot that are suffering from this disaster, and also for our foreign friends in the Philippines and China.

Yagi had calmed down considerably when it passed between Hainan and Leizhou. And then it became so fervent again so quickly. It’s really scary.
