Leslie of course is the only recording I found which plays the from the first edition of the piece, which has differences in the second and last movement.

I’ve never heard the first edition of the fourth movement. Very interesting!

The melody in the 2nd movement also forms the 2nd theme of the fourth movement.

Grieg, he seems to have been on good terms with Liszt. He said he praised the piano concerto.

Is this on a CD that you can purchase? Leslie Howard, once again, makes another fine recording of a little heard GEM.

I am disappointed by this performance: there is more romantic expression in this sonata than Leslie Howard recognises. The first movement is played molto allegro and not as indicated allegro, which makes the movement unnecessarily lightweight; when the movement does break into allegro molto, the effect is lost. Other movements are similarly rushed, perhaps the scherzo is the best played. The sonata may be an early work, but it does not need to be diminished in this way.

I really respect what Leslie Howard has done for Liszt, the Liszt society and the Liszt competition so I was expecting so much more from this performance.
