Superman is a superhero who appears in American comic books published by DC Comics. The character was created by writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster, and debuted in the comic book Action Comics #1 (cover-dated June 1938 and published April 18, 1938). Superman has been adapted to a number of other media, which includes radio serials, novels, films, television shows, theater, and video games.

Superman was born on the fictional planet Krypton with the birth name of Kal-El. As a baby, his parents Jor-El and Lara sent him to Earth in a small spaceship shortly before Krypton was destroyed in a natural cataclysm. His ship landed in the American countryside near the fictional town of Smallville, Kansas. He was found and adopted by farmers Jonathan and Martha Kent, who named him Clark Kent. Clark began developing superhuman abilities, such as incredible strength and impervious skin. His adoptive parents advised him to use his powers to benefit of humanity, and he decided to fight crime as a vigilante. To protect his personal life, he changes into a colorful costume and uses the alias "Superman" when fighting crime. Clark resides in the fictional American city of Metropolis, where he works as a journalist for the Daily Planet. Superman's supporting characters include his love interest and fellow journalist Lois Lane, Daily Planet photographer Jimmy Olsen, and editor-in-chief Perry White, and his enemies include Brainiac, General Zod, and archenemy Lex Luthor.

Superman is the archetype of the superhero: he wears an outlandish costume, uses a codename, and fights evil with the aid of extraordinary abilities. Although there are earlier characters who arguably fit this definition, Superman popularized the superhero genre and established its conventions. He was the best-selling superhero in American comic books up until the 1980s

Man of Steel is a 2013 superhero film based on the DC Comics character Superman. Produced by Warner Bros. Pictures, Legendary Pictures, DC Entertainment, and Syncopy, it was directed by Zack Snyder from a screenplay written by David S. Goyer who developed the story with producer Christopher Nolan. The film is a reboot of the Superman film series, depicting the character's origin story, and it is the first installment in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). Man of Steel stars Henry Cavill as Superman in the title role along with Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, and Russell Crowe. In the film, Clark Kent learns that he is a superpowered alien from the planet Krypton. He assumes the role of mankind's protector as Superman, making the choice to face General Zod and prevent him from destroying humanity.

Development began in 2008 when Warner Bros. took pitches from comic book writers, screenwriters, and directors, opting to reboot the franchise. In 2009, a court ruling resulted in Jerry Siegel's family recapturing the rights to Superman's origins and Siegel's copyright. The decision stated that Warner Bros. did not owe the families additional royalties from previous films, but if they did not begin production on a Superman film by 2011, then the Shuster and Siegel estates would be able to sue for lost revenue on an unproduced film. Nolan pitched Goyer's idea after a story discussion on The Dark Knight Rises, and Snyder was hired as the film's director in October 2010. Principal photography began in August 2011 in West Chicago, Illinois, before moving to Vancouver and Plano, Illinois.

Man of Steel premiered in the Alice Tully Hall in New York City on June 10, 2013, and was released by Warner Bros. Pictures in the United States on June 14. Critics felt the film's visually appealing action sequences were not enough to overcome its descent into "generic blockbuster territory", and they were divided over Cavill's performance as Superman. It grossed $670 million worldwide, becoming the ninth-highest-grossing film of 2013. A follow-up, titled Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, was released on March 25, 2016.

Superman is an upcoming American superhero film based on DC Comics featuring the eponymous character. Produced by DC Studios and to be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, it will be the first film in the DC Universe (DCU) and a reboot of the Superman film series. Superman is scheduled to be released theatrically in the United States on July 11, 2025. It is set to be the first film of the DCU's Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.

Christopher Reeve and Henry Cavill are both amazing Supermen, separated by decades, both great in their own right.

Christopher Reeve will always be my Superman. Henry Cavill would be 2nd in my life time. Of all time he would be fourth. With Kirk Alyn in 2nd and George Reeves in 3rd.

I still love the original design of superman costume, with pride and dignity from Sir. Christopher Reeve❤️

It also had to do with the origins of each suit. In the old lore with the classic spandex suits, Clark's mom would sew them together for him (really fucking sweet and wholesome) and most modern iterations including Cavill's have his suit come from Krypton.

When you say both those names next to the suits it carries a significant amount of weight.
Behold.... CHRISTOPHER REEVE
AND THE HENRY CAVIL SUIT.

The first suit is more realistic to wear under a suit

I would say overall that Superman lll is not the best Superman movie. But it has one of the best scenes in all of the movies. Where's Superman fights himself in the junkyard.

“Several years” is an understatement, several decades would be more appropriate

Cavills suit is state of the art. In regards to functionality and futuristic. It looked amazing on screen . Cavill made the suite better .

The fashion of the day had nothing to do with what they wore. It was the specific version of Superman that each actor was portraying, and the available materials of the time, that determined their look.

I’ve been trying to watch some stuff I’ve never really seen properly, I did the first 3 Indiana Jones films cuz my introduction to the franchise was the Crystal skull, I loved them, the 3rd with Sean Connery is my fave, then I did the first Batman films, cuz I grew up with the Christian Bale films, they were silly as it went on but it was a very fun experience, and then I randomly put on the first Superman with the late great Christopher Reeves, I wasn’t able to watch the rest cuz I had to get rid of max, but the first one was really cool, if I had seen that at the time it came out in theatre’s OMG that would’ve been awesome, I see now y he’s so loved, I liked his suit, it’s so simple in comparison to what we see now, but I really liked it, he made it look so cool, I also love that it’s simple fabric cuz he is indestructible so he doesn’t really need that much protection, I actually got the point of his disguise too, I always thought it was really stupid but Christopher really showed y it actually kinda works, when I saw him fly for the first time it was so cool I was giddy like a child, I put the second one on but fell asleep, not that it was boring, I was really excited cuz I wanted to see Zod but I had to take off max, I’m starting to appreciate Henry’s portrayal now, I wasn’t crazy about his Superman at first, but seeing Christoper’s first movie, I can see where the inspiration of Henry’s first outing as the character comes from, it sucks now too cuz he’s not Superman anymore, I do think Christopher does a better job of playing Clark and Superman, but I do love Henry’s look, kinda like Ben Affleck’s Batman I think appearance wise they’re both perfect, they both remind of the cartoon versions of the characters, when I think of Superman or Bruce Wayne I see Henry and Ben, I also really love the black Superman suit, it looks so good in the Snyder cut, and I wish that was his suit the whole time a bit
