DO NOT floss your teeth the way they show in the video. You can damage your gums using a sawing motion with the floss. The proper way is to go up and down the side of every tooth with the floss forming a "C" shape around the tooth and only go below the gumline in between the tooth and gum if the floss will easily go. NEVER force it. You NEVER want to break the seal between the tooth and gum. The ideal mouth would have all parts of the gum tightly adhered to the sides of teeth so you couldn't get floss in between them.

Yes, they do spread bacteria… so rinse them.

Use hot water for a quick rinse or, if you wanna go the extra mile, rinse them in a cup of mouthwash and then use the mouthwash.

Floss picks are fine.

1. It's more convenient and easier to use for the general public. Often times, people use the string and not even do them properly, especially the back teeth.

2. Spread of bacteria? Sure, caries are infectious, but your mouth is already exposed. You should be brushing with fluoridated toothpaste after flossing anyway. With that said:

3. Floss once a day, at night before sleep. Floss, brush, and after 30 minutes, mouth wash if you want. You are more than welcome to selectively floss after eating throughout the day.

4. I only recommend waterpik to a certain population of patients. It's not for everyone. Certainly not as good as manual flossing.

5. Listen to dental professionals. Not youtube. I would hate you more for listening to Youtube and arguing with me in the clinic than using floss picks.

Lastly, your dentist may recommend Prevident as reinforced toothpaste if you are a high-risk patient. Not only brushing with it, dip floss into it and use it together. Dipping your floss on toothpaste also works well.
