There is still too much disorganization on the center-left side for any split of LDP and Komeito to have any immediate significance. If Komeito were to say that it would begin cooperating with the loose coalition of opposition parties, especially, agreeing to back ONE opposition candidate from the coalition in each district, then that might spell trouble for the LDP. Economically, Komeito has some alignment with parties of the political left.

Glad you guys are back in the New Year and highlighting what is going on in Japan.

The Komeito already seem to have split off from the LDP in the Tokyo assembly - there was quite an emotional statement about no longer being able to work with them, a few weeks ago.

Komeito working as a brake on the LDP nationally has worked very well - Abe has used this brake extremely well. They help him manage LDP more easily. Not at all sure as Michael seems to be that there is only one more LDP/Komeito election. Komeito see major merits still in this relationship. LDP also see merit. Sorry no real drama as Michael suggests this time. Tokyo Metro Assembly and the Koike connection is going to be an anomoly at the national level - at leastfor this next cycle.
