Something about your chicken compost system that I think is worth highlighting: You've found a solution to at least two "problems" by combining them. Your chickens need to be contained to a limited run, which would rapidly be denuded of life and turned into something of a mess, were it just left as a stationary chicken run. You have a need for substantial amounts of compost to provide fertility through your gardens. By putting your composting operation into the chicken run space, you've reduced the work you need to do in the composting process, provided the chickens with a stream of food and activity, turned that potentially barren overworked chicken run into a source of fertility and life.
