PHO Rounds: Prevention System Quality Index 2023: Evidence and Data for Action

Ontario Health is pleased to present a PHO Rounds to share the new Prevention System Quality Index (PSQI) 2023 report. The PSQI series monitors Ontario’s progress on population-level policies and programs that can reduce the incidence of chronic disease. Risk factors covered in the report and presentation include commercial tobacco, alcohol, unhealthy eating, physical inactivity, environmental and occupational exposures and infectious agents. Presenters will also discuss an examination of the social determinants of health and highlight First Nations, Inuit, Métis and urban Indigenous health. Many of the indicators in the report are stratified by sex, income, racial group, immigration status and geography.
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
• Identify risk factors for chronic diseases in Ontario
• Describe the connection between the social determinants of health and chronic diseases for the Ontario population
• Discuss the high burden from chronic diseases on First Nations, Inuit, Métis and urban Indigenous people
• Identify policy and program opportunities to decrease the risk of chronic disease at a population level in Ontario
• Reflect on how the results of this report can be used to further work in chronic disease prevention
