Today I am going to show you how to set your base ignition timing by adjusting your Cam Angle Sensor (CAS), and how to check/adjust your Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) to ensure it has the right voltage parameter.

Best video description on timing and TPS adjustment. Timed it last night using the steps provided here, testing TPS today. You're the man, man!

Good video brother! So many people are afraid of timing. Think it's way over complicated when it's really fool proof! Keep it up!

If that is a OEM coilpack harness, there should be a loop in the back of it for the timing pickup. However from my personal experience, you should use a old spark plug wire to make a bridge between the coilpack and spark plug for the pickup to get a more accurate reading (FSM even says to). Sometimes there is interference with the other coilpacks/wiring to the #1 cylinder and the timing light would be sporadic.
1) warm up car to normal operating temp
2) turn off car, unplug TPS
3) start car, rev 3 times to go to timing mode
4) adjust timing
5) check idle speed, adj if necessary
6) turn off car, replug TPS
7) start car and check

this with a bridge from #1 coilpack to spark plug is the only way I found to accurately adjust the timing on my s14 SR

Wow, thank you so much for being so well-spoken and easy to follow. This is exactly what I needed to know while just doing the final tweaks on my s13 Silvia. I appreciate your time. -Thanks again!

Thanks for the tutorial brother 🙏 I have a SR20 black top with a mechanical distributor cap, if I check timing with the TPS connected it’s perfect spot on but if I disconnect the TPS the rpms go to like 2k on timing it is completely off should adjust timing again or is that only for the models with the electronic distributor system? Since with TPS conected it’s perfect just a hard initial start that I can’t find the problem… Would be incredible if you could reply thank you 🙏

Awesome video! I have a 2000 Infiniti g20 it has a sr20 engine in it. Do you think this video is apical to my engine?

Do you avoid adjusting the throttle cam/idle screw to effect the tps voltage? My voltage was high and the cam was opening the throttle. Haven’t been able to find it in the FSM and appreciate any info.

Can I connect my positive clamp to the alternator power wire? Should be the same right?

Set closed to .450 but wide open reads 3.80 is this an issue?

Great video man! I was wondering what your issue in the end of the video was my car misfires similarly to that but I’ve changed the plugs injectors and coil packs
