The only thing I hated about being a DA was whenever I went to work with a new doctor, they expected me to know what they wanted and how they wanted it on the very first try, without even bothering to tell me how they liked things. Every dentist works differently, has a different style, and it takes time to learn their movements and their personal flow. Yet explaining this to most dentists is like talking to a brick wall.

It’s absolutely ridiculous how hard we as assistants work out of everyone else in the practice and yet we are paid the lowest. Between maintenance, ordering supplies, preparing lab cases, sterilization, disinfection of rooms and surface areas, we hardly get what others receive as a full break or lunchtime. Constantly trying to get setups, rooms and patients cared for and yet we are the ones disrespected patients, staff and cheap dentists. During these times of pandemic we are highly at risk of an exposure and yet we continue our roles and duties as health care providers to provide patients with proper treatment and oral health education. Dental assistants deserve more respect, higher pay and benefits just as much as others receive in the oral healthcare field. Without assistants there would be no dental practice.

Months before deciding to enroll into DA school, I searched for a video that actually showed “A day in the life of a DA”, & not just a “sit down vlog” without an actual visual insight of what to actually except! As a DA student, I can say that your video is spot on! Great video this really gives aspiring DAs a huge glimpse into the DAs job description.

Im a dental assistant right now and I aspire to move up and hopefully become a dental hygienist. I think becoming a dental assistant is also a good way to help you determine if you like the dental field. It honestly has helped me know for sure that I enjoy the dental field and Im also getting experience in the field. Next step is Dental hygiene school!

Great job on making this video! I'm one of the very few male dental assistants. I've worked as a DA for more than 8 years. I enjoy the work itself, but the dentist you work for makes all the difference. I've had my share of working with verbally abusive dentists. That feeling of dread of coming to work in the morning is the worst, all because of the dentist.

Im a DA as well and i haven’t had a stable full time job in 6 months im about to start at a new place & with watching this it has helped me remember the different things there is to do in an office on always staying busy trying to find something to do so time goes by faster and so the Dr. sees your efforts and what your capable of🙌🏼

I see a lot of ppl on here saying they hate being a DA, don’t let that scare you!! I’m a DA and I lovee my job and I get paid good! My doctor is super chill too, yes a lot of them can come of mean but not all of them. It just takes some patience and applying at different offices to find the right one for you! Also there’s different specialties, I suggest applying at the specialty that sounds more appealing to you.

Dentist assistants don’t get enough love I had a cavity fixed today and the numbing shot hurt so I like flinched and the assistant let me hold her hand they are great for calming down patients.
(I’m 14 btw so don’t make fun of me for holding their hand)

Yes, this video it's accurate, I was DA for 16 years and I know sometimes you can hate your situation, but if you have a military education you can survive without problems, this is my advice (I was 5 years in the navy) God bless you!

Great office and staff. Both my wife and I are patients here and could not be more satisfied with the level of professionalism, concise and detailed treatment breakdowns, and the ease of scheduling appointments that fit our hectic schedules. Would definitely recommend this practice without hesitation!

I’ve been a dental assistant and hygienist. Both are underpaid and overworked ESPECIALLY dental assistants. I’m currently one now in Florida and it’s the only career I’ve had so I can’t leave but regret getting into this. The job itself can be overwhelming and the dentist NEVER appreciates all the hard work that you do for them.

My day in a nutshell! Except I work in a tiny office. Only one dentist, one hygienist, one office manager, & I’m the only assistant.

Well, I m a DA aswell, and it sucks due to the behaviours of Dentists and 10000s of responsibilities on one person😑

Learning to be the "all around girl, Jackie of all trades " will eventually make a DA indispensable. Duties from front desk to operatories, to sterilization, to ordering supplies, to back lab pouring stone models / making bleaching trays /custom trays etc .... I've been a DA since 1986 and yes, each decade gives me more & more things to learn, to remember, to do in the office and how to handle a variety of situations in an office specially if someone has a different vibes from the rest.
