Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy is an action-adventure video game developed by Eidos-Montréal and published by Square Enix's European subsidiary. Based on Marvel Comics' Guardians of the Galaxy comic book series, the game is released for Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and GeForce Now on October 26, 2021.

In Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, the player assume control of Peter Quill / Star-Lord from a third-person perspective. The player can utilize Star-Lord's elemental guns to defeat enemies, and fly through the air using his jet boots. Other members of the titular team, which include Gamora, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, and Drax the Destroyer, are not directly playable as they are controlled by artificial intelligence, but players can issue commands to them during combat. Each character has their own unique skills and abilities which can be chained together to inflict more damage. As the player fight enemies, a meter will build up and allow players to unleash a special ability known as "Team Huddle", which prompts Star-Lord to create a motivational speech and play a song to inspire his teammates. A good speech will grant the other Guardians gameplay benefits, though Star-Lord's abilities will be boosted regardless of the quality of the speech.

At various points of the game, the player can make key decisions, via dialogue trees, that will affect the relationships between the Guardians and the outcomes of certain missions. Throughout the game, Star-Lord's decisions will be referenced by his teammates. Despite the branching dialogue paths, the core story remains the same and the game has one ending.

Best part? If you do this optional dialogue, the epilogue reveals that drax and Peter occasionally get together to remember their loved ones over drinks

This was a heartwarming scene to watch, just two people talking to each other about their feelings in a realistic and mature way. Which is surprising considering how comedic the game can be at times.

The voice cast and voice direction is phenomenal for this game.
Drax's voice barely changes in tone but you can just feel the pain and loss in it when he talks about his family.

Whoever this writing team is deserves a raise and can hopefully be given more projects. Especially ones where you have a team.

This game surprised me in so many ways, anyone here also much prefer this version of guardians over the MCU one?
The character development, the story, the gameplay, everything done so well. I still remember I was so in awe when I see Drax standing over the fence, the graphics are breathtaking, and having this emotional conversation, just hits even more.
Peter, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Groot, all are better depicted in this version, love the team, really hope they will make a sequel!

Wishlist for the sequel.
+ Little less linear.
+ More variants of exploration rewards, not just scraps and costumes.
+ More depts into Guardians' skill tree.
+ More galactic monsters and mini bosses.

Anyone agree on these?

I had this feeling that the game would be a flop when it was first announced. Was pleasantly surprised that I was wrong. Visuals and dialogue alone are already amazing

That line, and this entire scene had so much heart put into it. The whole game did too, really. This was a really good game.

Points to the voice actor for Drax, maintaining his seemingly deadpan tone but also carrying the pain through every word.

The writing in this game puts Disney and James Gunn to shame. The comedy is even better. I really hope they get a sequel and more funding, and expand some of the exploration elements and the skill trees.

They really knew what they were doing with Drax in this game. He isn't just purely comedic value like in the movies. They even removed most of his powers in the MCU. In the games he has a lot more physical strength and often gets serious and says something serious thought provoking.

It's not that he's stupid, he's just literal and doesn't understand Earth customs or figures of speech. He's actually fairly intelligent. And Square Enix seemed to understand this. I'm not even a huge comic fan, but even I can tell they did his character true justice in this game. This scene really brought a tear to my eye.

Is it weird I relate a lot to their conversation about wanting to entertain doing something reckless? I randomly find myself having the same morbid curiosity as I'm driving over a bridge or something.

Their conversation about senseless death is something that I think can hit home for anyone.

Man, I really wished that they had developed Drax similarly for the MCU. I now understand Dave Bautista's frustrations more than ever. We were robbed. Yes, I love funny MCU Drax, but I also want him to be more. Too bad that the third movie will be Drax's last. Hopefully, Gunn will actually DO something with him.
