While I’m still not great at learning Danish or speaking Danish, I have picked up enough to have some favorite Danish words. I also love some of the ways that Danes speak English slightly different than American English. Some things are more logical or more inclusive 🫶 I kept a list of these things in a note on my phone since moving to Denmark. Here are 3, but I have a lot more if you want some follow ups, just let me know and I'll add additional parts of Danish words and expressions that I love to hear after living in Denmark for almost 6 years 😀 #expatindenmark #americanindenmark #danes #movingtodenmark #danishvsenglish #dansk #denmark #danmark #expat #expatindenmark #livingindenmark #expatlife #expatliving #livingabroad #lifeindenmark

It does mean dearest. And I think it's very sweet.

You definitely nailed it just now when you said "kæreste". And you are correct about the meaning. It does mean dearest.
I don't think Danish people really were thinking inclusivity when they started using that word. But hey... We'll take it :D

Related to the first one...English will say "put on your shoes and socks". Other languages appear to put on their socks first, which makes sense.

We have that last word in Swedish too, käraste. It's taken from the word kär which means in love, being in love. Basically you're calling someone your love, it's quite cute but very old fashioned

Well kæreste as you say it just means boyfriend/girlfriend but genderless and doesnt need to be dearest or beloved

I always have trouble with the word kæreste, simply because I never fully know which way they swing till I see their partner. So it comes with my inability to figure out their pronounce, so I can't talk about them really. Not a big issue, just a weird issue. Buy I guess the same confusion also exist when trying to explain you have a male or female friend in English
