In this video I am answering as many questions as I can regarding the experience of drawing on the new 2024 iPad Pro with the nano-texture matte screen option from the perspective of a professional illustrator.

I discuss how the texture feels, the clarity, I show comparisons, I put a screen protector on it (just to test), and so much more!

I will never understand why people actively try to be as confrontational as possible with their comments. Thanks so much for all the information. Your descriptions are exactly what I wanted to know.

It's crazy how many people were assuming the nano texture would have no effect on the drawing experience. I love that professional illustrators are finally able to bring their firsthand experience to the conversation.

I appreciate how you handle all the rudeness out there. People are too angry and need to calm down already. Love your content and energy you bring to YouTube!

I went to the Apple store and they let me draw stuff in Procreate for 30 minutes to get a feel for it. Bought it right after because it is truly awesome. I have used Paperlike for years and love it (except for the easy scratches) and yeah it has more of a paper texture, but this nano texture is impossible to describe unless you try it yourself. It feels creamy when you draw on it. Doesn't feel like the glossy screen at all.

Truly appreciate this, Chris! Trust me, the professional illustrators who watch you get it! 💪

It's absolutely wild to me when people go out of their way to be rude and condescending to someone online. I'm glad you push back at them a bit. Fantastic video as usual, Chris!

Great job.
As a digital artist I compared nano-texture, normal one and my M1 iPad with paper-like film in Apple Store.
Nano-texture was incredible. Very smooth. No more diffusing reflection like paper-like. Best drawing experience I've felt. And OLED still looks very black. I reserved nano-texture one just after that.
It costs very high(especially in Japan) but if you earn more with it you would be fine.
I will never buy normal one and paper-like films in the future.

I understand what you mean when you talk about how the regular screen is "sticky" vs the Nano-texture. I went to Apple Store today to test it and I totally can feel that.
Thx for sharing.

I went in and sat with the new nanotexture, and although it's subtle, it is indeed silky smooth, not sticky smooth. I kept trying the two glass types side by side, both at the same time, and swapping.. and although it was difficult to describe, I soon began to really dislike the standard glass. Like Chris points out, the inconsistent drag of the bare glass when you get oil on it or stuff was a royal pain. Nothing like that on the nanotexture. It even picked up fingerprints less.

Although hypothetically you'd think the texture would throw that light into the glass and cause hazing, it wasn't that noticeable, and when you account for all the glare and harsh reflections that I've learned to ignore.. the textured screen was actually clearer and easier to see. While my brain tries to filter it out, it can't remove the issue. So the lack of reflections just made the display pop better.

So, despite the fact that I really didn't want the 1TB, I knew I would regret not getting the nanotexture. So I'm returning my standard glass iPad and ordered a nanotexture.

Also, not for the person reading this, but for those who might need to hear this.. don't make claims unless you can actually back them up with unequivocal, replicatible facts. A differing opinion doesn't make others wrong. And you thinking something is true does not make it true. Assume others might know what they're talking about and check yourself before you go insulting people. I know this won't make a difference, but sometimes I feel it needs to be said.

Can you do an update video in a month or so? Durability check on the pencil and the screen

Your Nano videos have been very insightful and super helpful... Really provided some great peace of mind before I decided to plunk down a chunk of change on one of these sweet machines. Thanks

I agree. Best word to describe it is smooth. While I wish it were more scratchy sounding when drawing, it’s a night and day difference experience between nano texture and regular glass.

Nano is just like the Wacom Cintiq but with way better clarity. I love it, it is what I have always wanted them to do.

Just wanted to say thanks for a great video! I'm not an artist but use my Apple Pencil a lot for taking notes on my iPad Pro. I was excited when I first read about the nano texture option and then disappointed to find out it was only available on the higher storage options. I'll wait until the WWDC to make my final decision as to which level to go with. PS--I had to chuckle at some of the negative comments you read in this video. Clueless people. Thanks again!
