Tropical Storm Alvin, after briefly reaching hurricane status earlier today, is now weakening rapidly and will dissipate within a day or two. Behind it, Invest 94E is likely to develop into a significant hurricane next week, with a possible third storm behind it. However, none of these are likely to affect land.

Tropical Depression 04W has formed in the Philippine Sea, and could become a tropical storm as it heads towards Taiwan next week. Another area of interest could develop in the South China Sea at the same time.
