God ki should've been that new power system and worked completely differently then regular ki

Magic seems to be something Dragon Ball could explore. Many races can use it, like the Namekians, Earthlings, Mr. Popo (I think?), Moro. It would be neat to see a new protaganist explore this side of Dragon Ball that tends to be completely overshadowed by pure might and Ki.

The perfect time to introduce a new power system was in the Moro arc, the “Spirit” thing from the Yadrat race would be perfect and they could have used Moro’s power having something with that, the entire concept of god ki could be used better too. But unfortunately at this stage of the series, we will be with the same type of hair color changes transformations and huge blasts.

It really bothered me when God Ki become just another power up. Originally it seemed to be implying it was another type of ability, rather than a stronger one. If they stuck with that, then things like Ultra Instinct would have worked better, have it focus around the idea of sustaining how long you can last and emphasising the potential you already have, rather than making you even stronger. Like with Elder Kai's Mystic Power Up, he said that he draws out your potential.
On a related note, it should have been Saiyan God, then blue was Super Saiyan God, which is merging the God Ki utilisation with a transformation they already have.

That's an overcomplicated way to say "I want a brand new manga but with the same characters."

the craziest thing they did was send off merus, an angel apprentice was such a cool way to introduce ALOT of new stuff and they sent him PACKING

Hmm personally I don't think Dragonball needs a new power system. I think the structure of fights, storytelling, and characterization needs to be reworked. I can't imagine Goku spending a arc making some complex abilities like in Hunter x Hunter, Naruto, and etc. Dragonball focused on a more simplistic aspect and I don't think Toriyama and Toyotaro have chops to do a complex power system. Dragonball already has an escalation problem and that needs to stop, and to stop it is good storytelling.

Ki, God Ki, Demon Ki and Genki could have been that power system, but the show runners didn't think about that.

Dragonball NEEDED to let goku and vegeta pass away in battle and Gohan, videl, and the boys take the lead. With all that has happened since then, it NEEDS to commit to a time skip where every adult character is either dead or roshi-status, allowing for brand new characters to take over in a series which moves on from saiyans, namekians, red ribbon army, and space emperors.

It actually has them already. Almost all of special behaviors like this are looped into "magic." But Dragonball writers don't use them. Even Moro - the villain everyone was excited about because he was not only weak but a magician who said he'd fight unconventionally - ended up using no magic and just absorbed enough power to fight in a typical DB fashion. Minus a couple of visual moments that went nowhere. It doesn't help that they're usually framed as being lame or dishonorable powers that losers use when they aren't strong enough for "real" screaming number fights. Frankly, the writing just isn't smart or creative enough to support it. I'm at least glad they're giving everyone different colors to offer SOME characteristic to their brands. Although only Vegeta and Goku have "mechanics" to them, which honestly just comes down to some minor choreography. Any new idea they try should be similar to that at least: not replacing the brand's conventional fight systems but supplementing them. I think Dabura is a good example of that, if he had spent more time thinking up clever ways to try to deliver his nasty mouth goobers onto people during a fight.

I think another problem is suspension of disbelief. With modern Dragonball there just isnt the same suspense anymore because they don't really make it seem like the characters are struggling despite their capabilities. There is no struggle to grow and no struggle to win anymore. Like the Super Broly movie. Its hard to turn your brain off hen you know the characters in todays fights just lose objectivity and weight. You also can barely tell what actual power growth or progress even is anymore.

The Buu saga started out strong with this in mind and I believed this is the issue they would be tackling with that saga. When Supreme Kai broke down how Babidi was a weakling physically but where he is feared is "his magic". That was(much like many elements of the Buu saga that fell flat and didn't go anywhere) a cool concept. To have the Z Fighters, who spent all this time building their power to such god-like levels now powerless because they have been introduced to a new power scale...magic. Someone as powerful as Debura can be mind controlled to do Babidi's bidding.

Babidi was played like more of a comic relief villain when he could(and should) have been more like Frieza. Tiny, and underestimated because of his stature and lack of physical prowess...but he could turn your blood into acid or something crazy. It would have made the Z Fighters near powerless. But he's killed off and we return to the usual power scale antagonist again. This is why I've always said Debura shouldn't have been killed off so quick. He was a nice combo of magic and power. He could turn you into stone with spit, conjure a sword out of nothing and spit lava. A powerful wizard is such a cool idea for a DBZ villain.

God Ki should have been the big thing that separates the truly strong from the pack, but it never was.

Literally the first time a hero with God Ki fights a villain with Mortal Ki, we see Golden Freeza is not only a match, but actually stronger than SSJB Goku. It immediately became just another thing someone could do, not a monumental leap in power.

Heck, the two strongest non-gods currently are Gohan Beast and Black Frieza, with Jiren and Broly right behind. All four of them exclusively rely on Mortal Ki.

I generally just dont think the power system seems to work anymore because of how vague and abstract its become from this god ki stuff and the way its used just makes Goku & Vegeta's training look less effective because of how many characters without their level of training can just surpass them without even the same ki level.

My biggest issue with Ki is that powering up is functionally a wholesale boost to every possible stat. You move quicker, you hit harder and you take less damage, plus your Ki blasts carry a higher payload of force/heat/explosive yield, when in Dragon Ball characters tended to avoid using them because it would drain their stamina too much for far less payout in damage done.

Now compare that to HxH, where at the most basic level of combat, powering up a single limb both serves to deal more damage in that attack while in the process diverting precious Nen away from your own defenses, which you can either spread out across your entire body to accept some degree of damage should they land a hit, or protect only a single area by predicting where they'll hit you, rendering blows from Nen masters several times above you effectively feather-levels of power. You will _never_ see this kind of tactical calculation play into the Ki system as it stands, and that's a real shame, cuz I want that so bad

If it were up to me I'd cap it right at perfect cell/buu, but more ki or better control simply lets you be deadlier against weaker opponents. Like there's a cap about how much energy you can put out at a time.
Roshi doing Ultra Instinct in the Manga was really neat, letting him fight on someone else level for a short time due to his small well of ki. Jiren being a bottomless well of Ki due to years of condensing it through meditation makes more sense to me and adds more structure to the world.

A better option would be to equalize all the raw power and determine everything with skill, experience and the balance of mind and body in a fight, you know, bring back ACTUAL martial arts

They should just make characters close enough in power so people have to win fights by being superior fighters/strategists.

I’ve always felt like super Saiyan Goku on Namek should have been like the “ceiling” of power. Frieza was supposed to be the strongest being in the universe, and I think having the only thing surpass him be the legend that he feared is perfect. So many other directions to go after this. Mastering super Saiyan of course; in my ideal scenario, Goku wouldn’t be able to transform at will. I love the idea of the androids and Cell absorbing/draining ki from people, and Buu has so much potential to not be physically strong, but have crazy magic hax that the heroes have to be creative to defeat

Give everyone mastered UI to cap power and make the story mastery of a certain talent tree would be my idea.
