If you have a family or a home then you've probably wondered should you use antibacterial soap or not. The answer might surprise you.

It's time for the germaphobes among us to accept that they are covered with bacteria at all times, everywhere. And, there is nothing that you can, or should, do about it!

The bacteria on your skin, in your mouth and on your counter are your friends. Using soaps with Triclosan, Triclocarban or ay of the other antibacterial agents in soap isn't helping anything, and is probably doing harm.

I remember years ago when the antibacterial soaps first came out they told us to stop using them because it was causing super bugs like MRSA, etc.

I go out of my way to find soap that is not antibacterial. I worked in dentistry and had to use the antibacterial gel/liquid every day and I felt like I was poisoning myself! Now I put isopropyl alcohol in a spray bottle when I need to clean off countertops and other areas.

My mother always said that good old soap and water was enough.
Just by logic alone, the fact that we have evolved with these bacteria and had a symbiotic relationship with them should tell us all that we need to know.

Thank goodness! This has to be said! Just like the old, dangerous idea that talcum powder should be used to keep a woman dry and “odor free”. Some things we were taught need to be unlearned.

I found this because you sent out the link on your story. My sister had eczema. We started feeding her more eggs and she stopped using anti-bacterial soap. Her skin improved. I also hate anti-bacterial soap because we need helpful bugs too.

I agree with the part about not using anti bacterial soaps on your body and in your house. I clean almost my entire house with simple green and it works great. Nothing beats the original, ammonia based, scrubbing bubbles for cleaning bathrooms though. Scrubbing bubbles seems to use the ammonia as more of a grime cutting ingredient, with the anti bacterial aspect being a side benefit.

Our sink is messed up. I work, I take care of my wife, all the chores fall on to me but I don't have time to take care of everything every day cause I only have so many hours and so many things to do.

I use anti bacterial cleaning products to clean mold that forms before I get a chance to drain the sink manually with buckets, making several trips, do some dishes, dump the sink again.

The sink also has a drip we can't stop. So it just drips and fills up sometimes over a day or 2 sometimes every 8 hours.

I wish I could get caught up on chores and dishes but working and being my wife's care taker, while taking care of 7 animals is a lot. On top of yard work and trying to keep a poorly built 70 year old house together.

Not ready to throw out the bleaches yet. I use them when I need to.

Yep!! All i use is Grandmas Lye Soap and lye soap with baking soda. Most other "soaps" are not soap but detergents!!

Well, not on my body/hands. Yes in food prep and animal areas. Not changing that. My men spread germs all over and the cat walks on counters.

That's may be so! But dial antibacterial soap was the only thing to help my hidradenitis. I never for boils. When they changed the formula, they started coming back again. So it's good for something.

I use anti bacterial dial soap for my acute acne on my face. I have tried everything else under the sun and I mean nothing!!! Works!!...Guess what no new breakouts and my face is finally starting to look and feel so much better. I have oily skin so the soap doesn't dry out my skin
