Welcome to Bad Gear, the show about the world's most hated audio tools. There has been a lot of talk about the more recent Boutiques, the JD-08 and JX-08 lately but today we are going to talk about the Roland Boutique TR-08. Can this miniaturized TR-808 clone provide the true vintage drum machine feel.

A drum machine without the option for shovelling the outputs through a mixer and fx/comp/gates etc is a royal pita. And those nanopots are made for Playmobil peeple. Apart from that, it's a lovely coffee table conversation piece.

That 808 kick on the built-in speaker had me laughing for longer than i care to admit

Oh man, all the robots in the final jam with your head on them are absolutely hilarious. What an age we live in.

Yeah! Something I own finally made it onto Bad Gear!

Aside from that Korg Super Drums thing. But we don't talk about that. At least not in front of the children.

It’s difficult to grow tired of such a clean and ‘simple’ sounding drum machine. I have a diy ‘yocto 808’ clone that I spent a week soldering together. Nothing was more rewarding than firing it up for the first time and hearing that kick clap and snare knowing you worked so hard for it. Then the boutique came out, then the Behringer. But I’ll never part with something I spent so much time on that is uniquely mine!

I have no idea how much time you spend on your videos, but your aesthetic of inserting gear into old movies, and those robots (what?!), is such fun. :D

That clap at the end of the intro tells everything needed.

Bad Gear, I'm totally inspired by your videos. They are definitely informative but, more importantly they bring a smile to my face often. Keep it up!!! You have a definite gift in effective communication and without doubt have helped many in determining what gear may have a positive benefit if they were to be incorporated into their own set ups. Much of my studio would be considered obsolete or outdated but I become encouraged when I see these items showcased on your channel. There is no Bad Gear only a failure on the operator to find it's potential. :-)

Definitely not bad gear !! Had an original 808 back in the day. This is good enough without paying a fortune for an original today.

Today at my therapist I will be discussing the effects of having to see every piece of gear I own on episodes of Bad Gear from Audio Pilz... ouch.

The average frequency of hella dank memes/second in your videos is something we should all aspire to. The Meme Gods bless you 🙏😇

Amazing video as per usual! As always, the wordplay was absolutely on point ("more rover"), and the jams were awesome, especially the first one. I've got to say, I'm impressed by the sound of this unit, those bass drums have tons of low end weight, and to my ears, it sounds pretty authentic!

I recommend that you do a behind the scenes look at JUST HOW MUCH WORK goes into your videos. I see camera and motion tracking used, masking, etc ... And then just the amount of time and research it must take to track down all the little snippets you use.

Them there's the music you produce, using each piece of new gear you review. Them the sheer amount of time it must take for one man to edit it all together.

Well done my friend. You're videos are legendary. Or will be :)

I would pay real money for an album of stuff like Jam 1. So good. 👌

I think the D-05 was the best boutique offering. It wasn’t digital trying to be analog. My understanding is that it was pretty much identical to the original, other than the small size.

It doesn't sound bad. But I would choose the fully analog Behringer clone over it, all day and every day. Always wondered why this was produced when the TR-8 was already filling that niche.

2:16 meme will be shown to my son today!!
You packed the memes dense in this one, I have to rewatch your episodes at least twice at slower speed to absorb them all! Watching it once doesn’t have the impact.
