I work at LAX and something I’d add is the shuttle situation between terminals. After the passengers have to leave the terminal to transfer to another terminal, they get confused on where to catch the shuttle and which one to get on.

There are a lot of different shuttles and they are not well marked. People constantly accidentally get on the employee shuttle and end up at the employee parking lot. I even gave someone a ride back to the airport once so they wouldn’t miss their flight lol.

It's a brilliant airport for plane spotting. The variety of aircraft is amazing especially the heavies A380, A340, A350, 747, 777 and the Dream liner ❤️✈️

Some of the shortcomings in LAX come from the thoughts of its early planners in the 60s. They thought passengers will not want to spend time in the terminals, they want to park their cars, walk to the terminal, board the plane and go. International air travel was not a big thing and they did not envision being a major transfer hub. That explains the horseshoe setup with parking in the middle, small terminal buildings with little space for concessions or seating. The good thing about LAX is the cooperating weather year round, 4 parallel runways with wind from the same direction 95% of the time. Once you make it to the terminal, there is less chance you have to wait hours for a delayed flight.

I live in Los Angeles and LAX is my home airport and I’ve never had a problem with the airport and I travel internationally every year and the time going around the horseshoe takes no where near 1 hour. It usually takes about 20 minutes to get from terminal 1-7 going around the horse shoe

I've flown out of LAX 3 times this year and haven't had bad experiences. It's really not bad (:

I flew in and out of long Beach last year on southwest. That was wonderful. No waiting for anything. No shuttles. A lot of it was outdoors so you could enjoy the nice weather.

As someone who lives in Orange County and flies out of lax, I couldn’t agree with you more. The horseshoe is unforgiving if you miss the turn for your garage (if you can even get a spot), forcing you to traverse the whole horseshoe again. All the lines for coffee and food is always long so I end up getting a pre-made sandwich at a Hudson shop. The only reason I’d pick lax over John Wayne airport or Ontario international is because lax has the most flight options (non stop flights) and are usually cheaper.

Last year when I was on a layover at LAX we traveled in the domestic terminal and then we realized that we had to make it to the international terminal in order to make it to South Korea, we were completely lost until we asked an airport staffer. She asked us to go through underground tunnel that is a mile long. It was exhausting. The most absurd part is that we had to go to some sort of basement that had construction going on and go through this elevator with multiple floors. We essentially had Gamble and choose which floor is the correct one. Thank goodness it’s the right one. We then have to travel through more tunnels and overpasses with multiple pathways we had to choose. Finally we are at are at the international terminal to spend and hour finding our gate. Thank god the LAX staff were helpful because if not, we would have been stranded in Los Angeles.

0:26 I think you got them reversed. Top is departure and bottom is arrival.

Thank you for this Chris. We land in LAX on August 1st & have a 7 hr layover before we fly to Seattle. Nice to know how long it is going to take to get through Customs/Security. We will try & stay longer at international terminal if there is more space. We may even walk to In&out. Very good information.

When I visited LA back in 2012, it was my first time flying outside of Norway, and to be honest, I actually found the transit at Newark airport to be way more stressfull. Mainly cause I struggled to find the right gate, and each employee I asked, gave me different directions. Also, I guess I was lucky with my timing, cause the lines at LAX were way shorter than those at Newark.. I'll definitely keep your tips from this video in mind tho, if I get a chance to visit again in the future :)

Chris, few tips:

1. The G line Aviation shuttle is probably the best shuttle at LAX, its supposed to run every 7 minutes, 24/7. It's usually around ever 10=12 minutes; because it is a LAX shuttle it gets to use the priority bus lane in arrivals which has almost 0 traffic, never takes more than 8-9 minutes to go from T1-T7 in that lane.

2. T7 (United) and at a stretch T6 (Alaska) is pretty fast to get to, just take the shortcut right after T1 either upstairs or downstairs.

3. Depending on the time of day, it is much faster to go to arrivals in the morning (downstairs) and departures during the evening (upstairs) regardless of if you're actually arriving or departing. Each terminal has 3 or 4 escalators/elevators to switch between arrivals and departures.

I LOVE LAX!!.. it remaind me when I first arrived to this great Country coming from a Communist place like Cuba, I felt SO FREE!!. Thank you L.A. Thank you USA!!..years later I was working at a Duty Free store in LAX. I was a Accountant in Cuba, here in the States, I worked with people for the first time. I enjoyed my job SO MUCH, I encountered many tv and movie celebrities, like Robert Mitchum, I got his autograh, Robert Redford, The O'Jays, Sammy Davis Jr. Natalie Wood (RIP), Robert Wagner, Merv Griffin ..I dont remember how many more!....that was in 1974. I moved to an apartment in El Segundo, across form the airport... I felt so close and so in love to LAX for may years until now 2023...I will never YOU!!

TBH, One of the biggest annoyances at LAX is trying to connect International to International. In most world airports, you can stay airside but not at US Airports. You have to go through US Immigration and customs even if you are leaving LAX on another International flight within a few hours. Foreign visitors also need an ESTA or Visa for the USA even if we have no intention of staying in the US and are just connecting International to International. It is crazy!

I use LAX at least every other month and never seem to have many problems or hassles. Quick in and out. I guess im just lucky. Still prefer LAX over any other SoCal airport for the connections
