PMQs: Johnson's 'vacillation' allowed Delta variant to enter UK, says Starmer

The Labour leader, Keir Starmer, said lax border policy was to blame for the spread of the Delta variant, first identified in India, and the four-week delay in ending England's Covid restrictions. 'While the NHS was vaccinating, the prime minister was vacillating,' he said, referring to the two-week delay in placing India on the red list of countries. Johnson said the UK has among the strongest border policies in the world, and that the variant was already seeded across the globe

You're an island nation that has Brexsharted out of Europe. I simply don't get why you don't use your geography to your advantage like most other island nations have.

Boris needs to own his mistake. This is a huge slap into everyone face in the U.K.

I wrote to my MP last year and asked why UK boarders were still open to people coming in but closed to those going out which does not quarantine a country at all during a WW pandemic, international variants have been entering this country since the start by plane / boat which would suggest that the programme that the Gov is following is not working in preventing the spread but may indeed be helping it, boarder control of our waters has been found none existent in dealing with the thousands of people crossing from France in boats , its strange that politicians but one and the media seem to miss what is obvious to the people and the world ...

I don’t get how Boris can just blatantly lie to everyone’s face and not expect anyone to notice. He probably doesn’t care since the Tories control everything now.

The Indian variant, or “Delta” variant was identified in February long before April 23rd. So yet another lie. 🤬😡

A Labour politician chewing out the Tories for being too _lax_ with border policy. And I'm actually agreeing. Is this opposite day?

I usually agree with Johnson- but not this time. They weren’t tough enough with border control.
