I live in an area where bears are common and it still takes my breath away to see them (safely) in person! Usually through a car window and still very far away. They are majestic angels that deserve space, respect and protection! Around here we teach kids, “The best way to protect the bears is to leave them alone!”

I once commented on a video (it was a segment about foreign tourists approaching bears in yellowstone) about how tourists should please avoid approaching bears (or wildlife in general) in North America, in spite of their seemingly friendly disposition. One guy claimed that because they chase black bears out of their garbage cans on a regular basis that theyre not dangerous. Hearing a professional tell people not to mess with them is refreshing, and reassures me the world isnt completely out of touch.

The bears in my neighborhood are essentially oversized raccoons, they eat everyone’s trash. Also they seem to know exactly when we refill our compost bins with food scraps so they get into those as well.
