Can you imagine if once you Terastrallized, Protean changes the Tera types as well, upon using any move, an unlimited amounts of times? Yikes, that would be the most broken ability and generational gimmick combination I can imagine

on the first turn it gets switched in!
meaning if you protean, switch out, come back in, protean is activating for the next attack

Well, it was a broken ability to begin with.

I think i know the reason why they nerf protean, and that is because of tera types. If it was not nerf and they used while they are terazalized, my guess it would get buggy or it would be too broken during battle (aka: way too overpower when they use protean). Once the next gen comes out (if they are gonna do the next gen game) they might put it back to normal.

On a similar note, Cinderace also had a hidden ability of Libero that functioned identically to Protean, which made Cinderace a really big threat if you encountered one with said ability. Sadly it too, along with Protean, was needed in Gen 9.

But that was already known because Meowscarada having the same hidden ability, that's why I prefer Libero, because even if you use Piro ball, Cinderace doesn't changes his type, he needs to use a different type attack for the type change

It's not just Greninja, Meoscarada would've been OP as well. It's just the Protean ability being nerfed.

this change is what screwed me over in a battle against my friend, i used ice beam on his garchomp (zoroark in disguise) which left me as ice type, but i killed it next turn, then he switches in tyranitar, and obviously i use hydro pump, thinking i changed into a water type, but i was left as ice type and got 1 shot

This is only the least of Greninja's worries. The Battle Bond ability is now reduced to boosting attack, special attack, and speed after knocking out an opponent, and only one per battle!

Why does "debuff for balance" always turn into "YOU SOILED IT FOREVER". Literally, Greninja is still fine.
