Touring Max Allen’s Kaleidoscopic Home & Studio in North London | Visitors’ Book

The World of Interiors presents ‘Visitors’ Book’ with Max Allen. Max welcomes us into his ‘Max-imalist’ North London home/studio, brimming with vibrant colours and a tinsel-tastic tsunami of props.

Packed with enough tinsel and tat to rival any festive display, Max’s room is generously sized, with high ceilings and a mezzanine bed, reached via a rickety, red-painted ladder. An extension of his creative space, Max forgoes the traditional route of tranquillity: “I think it’s a myth that we have to have these stripped beige spaces in which to relax… You go into a woodland forest, there’s colours and textures and tastes everywhere. You still can be relaxed in colour and texture.”

Watch the full episode of Visitors’ Book as we explore Max Allen’s London warehouse-turned-home and studio.

Love that Max points out that you can be relaxed in bright, colourful environments and lots of texture, the link to nature makes a lot of sense.

Thank you for BEING YOU!!! So many people are scared to death of having a personality and being unique. Here I am, in small-town Indiana, stuck right in the middle of those boring-ass people. Nothing to keep me here. Maybe next year I'll escape.

Never a dull moment in a visual sense. I like that.

Please let’s have more homes with colour and maximalism, as soon as I see a sparse house with beige or white walls I loose interest, no atmosphere to them at all
