L7805 Voltage Regulator

Going through my components to better familiarize myself with what they are. Today I found a L7805 Voltage Regulator. This regulator drops voltage from an 18V max down to 5V. I typically use a breakout to do this. A buck converter, say. However this one component can take care of the whole thing for pennies.

Standard 200 steps/rotation stepper

Excellent. I found a bunch of these during salvage in Brazil. BTW, to make it easier to see the MM, touch the ground probe of the MM to the tab on the chip, instead of the pin. The tab is ground. Thank You! Are you from Canada?

Are those capacitors (near the voltage regulator) between the 5V out and the Arduino? If so, why are they there?

I have made 5 volts circuit by using L7805CT TO-3 Package, by 12v input and rectified with bride diode and filter with 470uF 50V cap.
But the output is showing 15.56 volts at last points.
Why is this happening?

Thank you for sharing the link to this from your other video. I have been considering using this component. But I could not decide whether to use this or a full 12v to 5v transformer. I don’t know enough about electronics! This is a great video. Very clear. I am using a 1A 240v to 12V transformer. This is to power some 12v LESs. Then I could use this voltage regulator to change it from 12v to 5v for the 5v part of the circuit?

I made such a circuit for a 5v bluetooth module, but there is humming noise. Please solve my friend..

Hey, this is totally a shot in the dark but I saw your video on a tutorial about the adafruit soundboard. I'm trying to make a project where it plays a sound automatically once it receives voltage from my 12v output from my car. (I will use a 12v to 5v converter). I just want to save myself the trouble of having to manually press each button so ideally once the 12v turns on after I turn the ignition on the soundboard will automatically play a sound. Do you have an idea on how to do this?

What voltage will it work up to . I need to convert 45v to 5v, I know 7805 is only rated to 35v have you tried to run on higher voltage?

What specs for those capacitors? 220uF? 470uF? It is hard to tell from the top.
