(Not really a spoiler) In the novel, Mu Tipo doesn’t want to feed Chen Gong to a tiger; he tells his servants to take him back to the palace and clean him up so that he can be his male concubine (it is implied that they are tortured). Shen Qiao actually takes him out of town and explicitly castrates him so he can’t hurt anyone else. I think they should’ve left that in. It really helps to show Tipo’s depravity (which is said to be well-known through the lands) and also Qiao’s character I think.
Soooo many small things like that have been changed from the novel for whatever reason and it has definitely been compacted for time, but that’s ok. If you can read the novel, I definitely recommend doing it! The official English translation is impeccable. Definitely worth paying for if you can (the free translations I’ve found online don’t come anywhere close tbh). You can order the official publications from Amazon for like ~$15 each.
