I am hoping to do another test in good weather very soon so stay tuned! I spoke to some of the ADAS engineers at Polestar yesterday (after this video was filmed), and they are very aware of the issues with ADAS I speak about in this video. There is an OTA coming in a few weeks that should address these issues!

hey Kris. with such weather you can count 20% more consumption on any EV.
Your consumption is pretty decent. That correspond to 19kwh without rain.
This is due to the tyres friction with the water (it requires much more energy to make the same speed), and the air density higher preventing air penetration of the car.
Do the same test with no rain and same temperature and you’ll have a much better consumption.
Or reduce to 110km/h and you’ll have a lower impact of the rain.
Conclusion you can’t establish this EV consume.a lot under those circumstances

PS: ICE cars also consume more when it rains

(Polestar 2 owner) I also testdrove a Polestar 4 last weekend and I'm not really convinced.

Pros against Polestar 2:
- quieter
- more space for passengers in the back (I'm tall, so an adult sitting behind me in the Polestar 2 is not so comfortable)
- cupholders are placed better
- more storage space in the doors and in the center console
- it has a HUD

Cons compared to Polestar 2:
- this car is 2.14m wide :| probably 15 cm wider than the Polestar 2 and you can really feel it here in Europe. the lane assist kept beeping me on the highway and I really don't want to imagine having to enter a narrow parking garage or navigating some narrow streets in Italy for example. even home in Switzerland there are frequent construction areas on the highway where the second lane is narrowed to 2m, so this car won't fit there. It feels a bit more spacious at the legs, but I honestly was not feeling cramped in the Polestar 2 and I don't feel the benefit of these extra 15cm in the width of the cabin.
- the steering wheel is such a downgrade compared to Polestar 2, very confusing capacitive buttons, many functions cramped in there
- I feel like they took the worst lessons from Tesla and moved a lot of functions from physical buttons to the center display (opening the glovebox, opening the charging port, adjusting the mirrors and the steering wheel - yes, I know with very many clicks you can adjust the steering wheel and the mirrors using the steering wheel buttons, but why?? it's so much easier and faster to have the joysticks for the mirrors on the doors).
- I'm not a particular fan of the gear selector on the steering wheel instead of on the center console, but I understand that this allowed them to have the cup holders in a normal position
- the digital mirror is ok, but it's so weird to not be able to see my passengeres from the back anymore because of it (I know you can toggle it to see them, but you can't have both at the same time)
- the frunk seemed even smaller than on my Polestar 2, which is crazy considering how big the front part of the car is
- probably needs a bit more tuning in a future software update, because the acceleration pedal was very brutal compared to Polestar 2, making every traffic light start a head bump in the seat

These are early days, Polestar has done a great job to make Polestar 2 much better with OTA updates, and I expect the same with P4. I currenlty (summer) have 17 kWh/100 km in my P2 LR dual motor from 2021 model year.

Interesting result - I've test driven the car and got a much better consumption result of 21kwh/100km, that is with a dual motor version with climate and normal driving over about 60km round trip. I did experience exactly the same behaviour with the lane changing though, something they need to sort with an OTA update.

I got 19 on a drive from home to work with the Single Motor version. 90% highway with about 100-110 km/h. Total drive was about 40km.

Really like the quality of your videos. What camera and lens do you use?

Where can I find your spreadsheet with all of your data? I would love to study and compare..

something is very wrong with that unit (or the weather really impacted the results - much more front wind than what you thought?! I've been driving it 125kph and get between 19.1 and 20.6Kwh in average (220km total daily highway commute)! I do not use the adaptive cruise..it's rubish for now.

I've watched about 15 Polestar 4 reviews and yours is the FIRST that has mentioned anything about cruise control and lane change so thank you - I had heard that it was "poor" generally. Have you heard whether or not there are plans to improve it in the future? My lease ended on my Model 3 and I'm looking at either a Polestar 4 or a new Model 3 and at the moment, leaning into Tesla a lot after seeing the negatives about driving the Polestar... Build quality may be nicer but that's no good if the car doesn't drive well!

What is your opinion about Max Missoni leaving Polestar? Did he felt that his design circle is over in that company, did they make him quit or maybe he sensed that Polestar is about to flop and went out just in time? I believe his was an asset for Polestar and him out of the company was a mistake!

I had the launch edition Polestar 2 and the adaptive cruise control / lane centering was the most disappointing aspect of it for me. When my lease ended, I needed a car and it would have been a year+ wait for the 4, so I ended up getting the EV9. Lane centering and highway drive assist is sooo much better than Polestar’s. It’s a bummer it hasn’t seemed to improve even 4 years later 😢

Like to see you redo this test in better weather, dry roads/no wind/no precipitation/warmer temps. Still like the car and even for that poor weather 370km is good but where I live speed limits are max 110km/h or lower depending on the road.

Results looks poor for the vehicle however, it might have been different doing a drive to say 5% remaining battery for a real world, actual range drive. Driving an EV is a different experience than driving an ICE vehicle when it come to long distance driving, not vastly different jut the “refueling” process. Certainly folks that don’t own EVs will have their say but, as any EV driver knows, you aren’t always topping up to 100% to do long distance drives, unless you have hilly terrain and not enough chargers available along your route (which, more are constantly being added). Driving about 2 hours is a good time to stop, take a break, and also top up the battery, if required.

For the size battery in the P* 4, I would expect mid 300+ mile range in poor conditions and just higher range overall. Seems like they need more work to make the vehicle more efficient. Would be nice to have BYD Seal long range single motor performance from the large battery in the Polestar 4.

Hi Kris, will you do a review of the dual motor with performance pack?

The driver assistance issues worries me, while the consumption based on the few snippets of your driving we got to see doesn't worry me too much. I was expecting worse giving what I saw... It will be good to see what you think after a full week with the car as I know you'll have a much better idea by then. Looking forward to your future coverage.

Could there be issues with the specific car that you have regarding charge speed and range? Otherwise glad to see you in the Polestar 4 👍

To drive a car with a so huge battery at 120 km/h is not enough to increase the temp of it. You need to drive faster or do the yoyo trick that would ruin the test. 25 kWh average discharge is nothing for a 94 kWh pack. You're discharging at about 0.25 C. Plus 16°C, cold rain, wind. I bet the pack was at less than 20°C. A 75 or 60 kwh pack would have more internal resistance just because of the rating of discharge.
