Ultimately, the connection between the dragon balls and the chaos emeralds (which is probably the main selling point) doesn’t hold up quite as well when you release there were originally six chaos emeralds. Also, it’s not like the dragon balls let Goku and Vegeta transform into super Sayians. Still, there is a bit of connection between the two, I’ll admit.

No sonic creator is a huge fan of Dragon Ball, He even drawed a concept of Sonic and Tails as Dragon Ball characters.

Personally I doubt sonic copied super saiyan, considering how close the gap was + what it took to make a game back then with all these mechanics they made to actually obtain super Sonic, it isn't impossible but very unlikely since it would be basically last minute
