Sad to see so many beautiful buildings replaced by faceless slabs of concrete. 😢

Central Michigan Station in Detroit has now been renovated and has just reopened (2024). It is magnificent. I believe the Ford Motor Company paid for it.

Before going to Berlin in 2003 I found a photo of the badly-damaged Reichstag from 1945 and when I got there I took photos from the exact same spot. In the absence of photo editing software it took quite a few shots til I finally got the one at the exact same angle and the exact same amount of background. They’re framed now and I love them

If I were a time traveler from the future, I would be lost and confused in these drastically changed locations in the past.

I think they made their point about Detroit.

I love seeing photos like this. The photos where the buildings have been torn down aren’t terribly interesting because I could find numerous examples like those in my own city.

For me, the fascination is about the fact that a structure has survived the passage of time and is still recognizable even when the landscape around it has changed. That’s not an every day thing by any means.

Great video though 👍🏻👏🏻

It’s interesting to see how time changes things. Some of the buildings are exactly how they were while others have been replaced by sometimes faceless buildings. Regardless time goes on and things change.

10:55 outrageous greed and uglyness where a beautiful neighborhood was.

These are amazing but so sad to see that Americans have so little regard for preserving historical buildings. The UK and other places, progress has happened but they preserve the buildings much more than we do. Some cities have done better than others but horrifyingly dreadful plain ugly building have been built where stunning others have stood.

Wow. Euro cities are 500 yrs old or 1000 yrs. Makes US history meager

All the US cities have lost their streetcar/tram systems. Such a bad decision.

I wouldn’t have traded one of those old buildings for the new monstrosities they have now. The buildings nowadays have no character. Bland and mundane.

Since 1955 Detroit has lost two-thirds of its population. Entire neighborhoods have ceased to exist.

10:09 it looks like the house on the right is smiling…while it’s rotting away..creepy.

The side-by-side comparison photos of the old farmhouse is sad to see. How can a beautiful antique structure like that be left to collapse in on itself? 😭

Surely there must be someone who wants to restore it.

The photos of Buenos Aires looks impossible. From a river to a street? And the Fotomat pictures look like they need to be switched. Other than that, absolutely great pictures.
