I worked in a refinery and I told my supervisors the only fire I would fight is the one between myself and an exit.

I've been a chemical operator for 11 years, and this is hands down the scariest thing any of us in the industry can imagine

When I was a oiler they had a safety meeting and one of the questions asked was, what would you do if you came around the corner and there was a barrel laying there with a hole in it?
I Said I would run like hell out of the plant and if I passed a PA phone on the way out I would holler at everybody else, cuz it’s my job to work here but Not to die for you.

They said well correct answer is to roll barrels with hole to top to stop leak.
Mind you we dealt with 111 Triethylene degreaser, several different kinds of acids and lye all in the same storage areas most of which caused nerve damage.

Big hoss back there don't run for anything.

But yeah, glad they're safe. I also work in a chemical plant and I have a few escape routes in mind for sure

I've worked for a refinery since I graduated high school as an operator, if we don't have at least 1 fire a week we're (off line) (oil out) (block feed to the riser) or a turnaround going on. We're all heavily trained in firefighting, hazmat, etc. at Texas A&M.
You operator's shouldn't be running from a fire but running to get the units shut down to keep from causing more explosions and/or deaths. Starting fire monitors for cooling the surrounding towers/vessels/tanks and helping injured personnel.
As a supervisor I'd fire every single (trained personnel) running from this situation. This is our job that we get paid extremely well for, if it were you injured and unable to get out you wouldn't want to be left behind

Really strange how many chemical plants "exploded" in the past three years 😳

Glad that we’re able to get out. I’ve read about some workplace disasters where employees weren’t notified on the severity or made to stay

When you see the Warehouse forklift flying out onto the highway, you know something's wrong😅.

Wow that's scary😮 hopefully everyone is ok. I worked for a chemical company many moons ago and we had one fire, small but freaked me out enough to start looking for another job
It didn't help that we were next to the big Sinclair gas holding tanks either.
