It’s a trim from ScreenJunkies' Honest Trailer on What If - one of the best honest trailers till date imo; and I'm a sucker for the MCU.
Note that I do not own the content.

MCU is awesome and stupid at the same time, but hey thats what you get for making 20+ individual sequels of a franchise

Guess the problem with What If was its limited duration for each ep as well as its anthology storytelling method that for the most part wasn’t maintaining your usual overarching narrative over the course of the show. Each story was told in such rushed way that we could only admire the revamped versions of stories we had already seen on a surface level without putting much thoughts into its every detail due to the lack of time to do so. I have hopes for future Marvel animated projects to do better as long as they don’t have these restrictions, and as for What If they might wanna re-evaluate how they want to condense future stories and make them fulfilling enough in the next season

I honestly liked What If. Not my favorite show by any means, but I don’t understand why so many people hate it so much

What if would have benefited from a different direction.

Specifically I think the singular episode for each topic format didn’t leave enough time to flesh anything out. I think that instead they should have taken two to three ideas and turn them into multi part arcs.

So I would have gone with black panther as star lord, the zombies and maybe warmongers storyline.

Only like one of the episodes worked in the short format and that was dr strange. The rest all felt like they were rushed or just suddenly ended.

My problem with WHAT IF is they literally could’ve just hired new voice actors so they could have more episodes. And some of the episodes were just extremely corny. The only good ones in my opinion were the Kilmonger episode, doctor strange, and the finale. They literally only needed Benedict cumberbatch and Peggy Carter’s voice actor. The zombie episode was a complete bummer especially if you read the comics and was so “Disneyfied.” And this is coming from a huge MCU fan. I’ve always said they need to drop the Disney stuff and go darker. Nothing wrong with humor, there’s just too much of it. The Thor episode was horrendous and like a kids show.

Sometimes they picked the dumbest What If...? stories. What if Killmonger saved Tony Stark?? What if the world lost its Mightiest Heroes would've been good if they didn't pick Hank Pym as the killer. What if Thor were an only child was entertaining but I'd rather see other stories like What if Bucky killed Tony Stark instead of his parents? Or What if the other half got snapped?

While some episodes of both worked, What If has the same problem as Star Wars: Visions— it’s too formulaic. In the matter’s case, they advertised the show as being super special since it was outsourced to legitimate anime studios but most of the episodes just boil down to “exposition, Empire gets involved, things seem hopeless, Lightsaber fight, hero wins.” What If was clearly exec-controlled but I wonder if they had much involvement in Visions or if it was just a massive coincidence.

What I liked about What If was that the premises of it literally lived up to its name. Like the whole series is the equivalent of two people sitting in the back of a class going, “yeah, but what if X did Y and we got Z”. It’s literally fanfiction crunched into 20+ minute episodes, without the crossovers with Naruto.

And now we're waiting around for Doctor Strange 2. Funny how things change.

Kind of made me realise I wasnt a super fan anymore when I gave up with what if, didn't bother with eternals and started to not enjoy MCU films that release now. Or maybe I just have the luxury of choice now with how huge the MCU is

The fact that the MCU has gone on for as long as it has with very few objectively bad productions has spoiled the fan base imo. I get the criticism for Black Widow, certain what if episodes, and FATWS. However now I feel that anytime a new movie comes out that isn't top notch, haters and fans alike act as if the MCU has suddenly crashed and burned overnight.

The only genuinely good episode was the one with Doctor Strange

The ending title “But Why?” can be used for pretty much any MCU project at this point lol

What If was really disappointing. I hoped to see stuff like what if Iron Man won against Cap in Civil War, or What If Thanos won in Endgame

Some episodes were really well done, like doctor strange’s, black panthers, and Ultron’s. But a lot of the others were just low-quality.
