One of the truly great interpreters in operatic history!

Elena Souliotis was a great singer for a short time. I saw her always in Lisbon: Gioconda, Otelo (1965), Nabucco (1966), Aida (in 1969 with Bergonzi and Cossoto).

Unfortunately one of the greatest interpreters of the opera world long gone, perhaps not a Callas but a hundred thousand times better then anyone around today.

Is there a full (one assumes Pirate)recording loitering just waiting to be released? I do hope so. Just found these Tosca fragments...super!

Elena had a great voice huge and silvery . I heard her in Philadelphia in 1966
as Abigaille in Nabucco. It was imposing but I could hear she was singing
wildly and she soon killed her voice,

There was a short period during the life of Suliotis when she was the most exciting soprano around and as far as Raimondi is concerned, he was always a very good reliable but predictable tenor, certainly well above average.  AK

She was another good to acceptable Soprano, after all somebody had to sing in Madrid, when somebody else was singing in New York or S. Francisco, her problem was the expectation of lots of peoples for her to be another Callas, there have been better Soprano than her, but also a lot worse, another number on the list, but a fair good number. The same comment is also valid for G. Raimondi .Grazie Gino
