Old school uses better steel so they are thinner. Also, the thinner head gets into tight spaces a little better. Old school were much better quality and easier to use.

I prefer the older thinner one.
I bought all my wrenches used from eBay so they are a combination of the new "style" and old style. The old ones seem to be better quality in my opinion and Even after leaving the professional wrench turning behind I still love my cars and I still use my wrenches pretty much daily (mainly SAE rarely metric) The older wrenches seem to fit a little better seem to be thinner where it matters.

Sad part is breaking the older stuff cause if you warranty it out the snap on guy is giving you the new version.

Never believe it, but I just bought 3 sets of old school snap on wrenches at an estate sale for $2 per wrench total I got 28 wrenches $56. All look like the day they were made.

The old school is thinner because it's a better grade of metal. Allowing it to be thinner and retain its strength.

If you have a flank drive wrench that has been made recently I have noticed that the teeth wear off much faster then the wrenches I bought back in the 90s, , , the newer wrenches I have to warranty more often

I was ASE certified in the mid 80s but was buying Snap On tools from 74 with my student discount plan.
My High school had a automotive shop that would rival any dealership. I took automotive repair which was actually three hours long, which included a "0" hour. One hour before school started we was in the shop/class room.
Anywho, the Snap On truck came every Monday, along with Mac and Matco.
I still have a cart full of older Snap On. I am semi retired now and my wall sized box(s) is filled with American made tools. Lol, I still remember when Snap On owned the ratcheting screwdriver world.

What gets me is the chrome yellow in the 70s that is missing on the silver new

Old school still fits in more spot's. I still shop for old tools at garage sales. Never know who use to twist a wrench and is now retired

The chrome looked so much stronger on the old one though! I prefer the older ones..

Engineers designed the old ones, and engineers designed the new ones. They're built for the same purpose, but the new one is thicker. What does that tell ya? The new ones use weaker steel.

My icons from harbor freight also have the exact same features! And take a beating! I’ve thrown my wrenches across my garage in anger many times and can’t even tell, plus, they were like $40 and have a warranty so I can just get a new one

A few years ago I traded my old set from the 70s for a brand-new set from my Snap On guy, and I've regretted it ever since. The new set is very noticeably thicker and beefier, much like my Craftsman set.

You too can own that 19mm wrench for only $68 a week for 97 weeks.!

Those changes don’t make them better. There will always be a situation where wrenches of some dimension won’t fit.

I've got a couple sets of these and I use them everyday but mine are extra long and then I've got a regular set to there the best wrenches made

I’ve watched this a couple of times… he says the new one is thicker but the old one looks way chunkier. What am I missing?

Made in ‘70 and no sign of use? Maybe you should try fixing something.
