Headphones are an essential tool for DJs because they need it to listen to what they're going to play next. But there are also other reasons why DJs use headphones:

1. Mix monitoring - Headphones let you hear your mix as accurately as possible, which is great if the booth monitoring at the venue you're DJing at is bad (or non-existent!)

2. Reduce ambient noise - Clubs and bars are noisy places especially when you've got a crowd in front of you. Wearing your headphones lets you block out some of that noise while you mix
