RTX 2060 Review - Finally A Reason to Buy RTX?

The NVIDIA RTX 2060 is here and while it does cost $350, its gaming performance is pretty impressive. Just don't expect this GPU to be affordable.

Spec wise, Nvidia didn't cut all that much when compared to the RTX 2070. The RTX 2060 ends up with the exact same specs as the last generation GTX 1070 generation GTX 1070 but uses a narrower 192 bit memory interface and 6 gigabytes of fast GDDR6 memory and even runs at the exact same speeds.

When compared to gains of the GTX 1060 that it's supposed to replace the RTX 2060 is superior in basically every way. It has 50% more cores and texture units while also offering a ton more memory bandwidth, the 6gb's may be the only limiter in some games but with Turing's updated memory architecture it may not be too much of an issue.

The real question is about the price and honestly guys the entire RTX series is pretty expensive. The RTX 2060 will be compared directly against the GTX 960 and that card launched at $300 for the founders edition and pre overclocked cards but eventually settled to around 250 bucks.

Some might be happy with the price/performance scaling linearly with last generation's cards, but I remember the days we'd get 50%+ performance at the same or lower prices... and it wasn't so long ago. Remember when the GTX 580 launched at £399? Now you have to pay £699+ for the 80 series card, or £899+ if you want the fully unlocked core like the GTX 580 was.

You can easily find new GTX 1070s for $300 and 1070 Tis for $350 if you wait for a couple weeks on /r/buildapcsales. The 6GB of ram is just too hindering for this price point. RTX and DLSS probably won't become some sort of standard till Nvidia's next generation of GPUs. Plus we have AMDs CES conference in a couple days, let us hope they put Nvidia to shame.

Still not a reason to buy RTX because it is a 60 card wich should be in a 200-250$ bracket, not 350. And by calling it a "reason to buy" you effectively promoting price inflation wich is really dumb move. Also there are plenty of 1070s on a used market for 200-250$ that are still on warranty. That's what i actually got recently, and it works like a champ.
