It is only a matter of time before the highly pathogenic H5N1 bird flu strain reaches Australian wildlife, and not only birds are at risk. This webinar will give you insights into the global impacts of bird flu, implications for Australian wildlife, plus how community.
In this webinar you will hear:
- Dr Michelle Wille from the University of Melbourne outline what has happened globally to wildlife and potential major impacts for Australian wildlife
- Dr Fiona Fraser from the Australian Government talk about national preparedness and response plans for native wildlife beyond surveillance, including for highly vulnerable places and species, and
- Dr Simone Vitali from Wildlife Health Australia provide advices for the community on what to look for and how to respond.
The webinar was MC'd by Jack Gough, Conservation Director of the Invasive Species Council.
Given the enormity of the threat that this bird flu strain poses to Australian wildlife, this webinar was jointly presented on 26 Aug 2024 by the Biodiversity Council, Invasive Species Council, Australian Marine Conservation Society, Birdlife Australia, the Australian Land Conservation Alliance and WIRES.
