Christmas 1976 I got a Realistic TRC 52. I was ten years old and that was the best Christmas ever.

I had a Navaho base station back in the day!  Tons of fun... the original 'social media'!  I remember modifying it, to make channel 22A and 22B!

I've always loved that that little musical at the end of the Radio Shack commercials.. Dee-da-da, Dee-da-da, Dee-da-da!

In the late '70s Radio Shack was THE ONLY PLACE that I cared about at the mall. Ok, maybe sometimes Spencer's, LOL.

That Navaho base unit was the best SSB rig I ever owned. Still bummed to this day that I sold it.

Back in the 70's Radio Shack used to be THE place to go for CB gear. Back then they were modifiable (if you were into that sort of thing), and they offered some pretty good base and mobile CB antennas. Back in the mid 70's I had a 5/8-wave CB antenna, all aluminum, and it worked fantastic. Radio Shack always had a great selection of base and mobile CB's and scanners but scanners were crystal controlled at that time but were still lots of fun to monitor. Sure do miss the good ol' days :>\

Loved RS back in the 70s when I was preteen I would await their yearly catalog to droop over all the cool electronic gear and parts for projects too. I had a pair of the neat
Archer Space Patrol Walkie Talkies with the orange morse code keys and they operated on a single ch 14 crystal . Talked to many people and some were as far as a hundred miles away when skip kicked in, it got me into the whole Amateur Radio hobby, and electronics in general. I hope by some miracle they can reorganize and return to their roots carrying Amateur radio, sw, scanners, kits, and components as well.

its hard to find CB's at radio shack now, luckily my local radio shack still carries them, theyve been around for 40 years, they even have the old logo like this one

When Radio Shack WAS Radio Shack! ( i remember that little musical flourish at the end! 0:26 )

The doit yourself component of these stores since the '90s is so watered down! It's all disposable stuff that can't compare to the good ol days.

I was the youngest licensed operator in my neighbourhood. I doubt my license is still on record. But it was said it was a permanent license. I may still be KBX1339 and do not know it.

This has to be pre 40 channel 1976- I think the 40 channel units came out the following year. the CB's advertise in this Radio Shack commercial had 23 channels only. I remember when they introduced the 40 channels, everyone got rid of their 23 channel models.
