Explain the differences between primary and secondary endosymbiosis, and give examples of each (i.e. which groups have undergone secondary symbiosis). Use the evolutionary tree from the lecture slides to explain why protists are not a natural group, but a collection of lineages, some only distantly related to others. Draw a diagram to support your explanation. Scientists think that red algae likely evolved in deep ocean water. Describe information about red algae pigments that supports this idea. What is the difference between Gametophyte and sporophyte? We discussed 5 major trends in plant evolution. Draw an evolutionary tree that shows the relationships of the major groups of land plants and the Charophytes. Add the following features to the correct locations on your tree: embryo protection, vascular tissue, megaphylls, microphylls, seeds, flowers (Hint: see tree in the lecture slides). Be able to draw your own tree or add traits to it, but not identical, use similar.
