Hello all! After teaching abroad in Munich, Germany for a week, I decided to put on my tourist shoes and take a historical hike. Check out the gorgeous carvings inside Schloss Nymphenburg (Castle of the Nymph). The first incarnation of the palace was completed in 1679. Over the next hundred years, expansive wings were added, the grounds and Baroque gardens expanded, and ornate, Rococo embellishments commissioned to adorn every surface at the direction of the various rulers of Bavaria.

Wow I can't imagine how many hours and master carvers it took to complete all that beautiful carving! Thank you Mary.

If there is any way they would let you borrow the marble top table?.... My mom could use it in the foyer and I was thinking that wouldn't be to over the top.
GORGEOUS!

Hi Miss May! Just started exploring your channel last winter, and thought I'd see if woodcarving was something I'd enjoy, and just purchased Mike Davies twelve piece chisel set. I know it's not a professional set, but I think it will allow me to ascertain if woodcarving is something I'd enjoy. Also I'd like to add that your videos has been exceptionally helpful, and I'm interested in hearing what you think about this castle you're exploring.

wouldn't mind if you carved a cherub or maybe a 'sun king' face. Lime wood is pretty amazing in that it seems so easy to carve.

Mrs May, do you know why the acanthus leaf became so popular among wood carvers? I'd like to know why. The acanthus is only attractive for a very short period of the year and it never flowers.
