Victoria's Belt and Road agreement was 'nonsense to begin with'
Показать описание
Former Victorian Liberal Party President Michael Kroger says the Belt and Road Initiative agreement the Victorian government entered into was “nonsense to begin with” and should not have happened.
“There’s 138 countries around the world that have entered into these initiatives with the Chinese communist government, a majority of which are requiring investment and infrastructure by somebody,” he told Sky News.
Mr Kroger said of the countries who signed an agreement “at least 40 of them” supported China’s crackdown on Hong Kong and Australia should not enter into as oppressive a country as China.
“Why was it necessary for an Australian government, to which the Victorian state government, to enter into this agreement which really provides nothing, it’s just a friendship gesture, with one of the most repressive regimes in the world?”
“It was nonsense to begin with and thank goodness Marise Payne and the federal government have stomped on it.”
