The sexiest casting in any musical ever. What a couple!!!

What I love about this rendition is that she doesn't soften it up. She matches the brassiness of the rest of the score and makes the character pop in a way other actresses don't.

Jean Simmons does drunk well, doesn't overdo it

In another setting, a cute drunken song-and-dance number could easily become cloying and annoying, but not so with this performance by Jean Simmons:

1. Her character of Sgt. Sarah Brown in "Guys and Dolls" is a prissy missionary who has just discovered the joy of falling in love...

2...With a gambler (Ok, no one is perfect) named Sky Masterson, who happens to be the most charming, most clever, most affectionate, most handsome, and the “highest player of them all” in the Oldest Established Permanent Floating Crap Game in NY.

3. And Glory be! This prince of a gambler is also madly in love with her. He provides structural support to her crazy dance and delights every movement with funny gesture without upstaging her.

3. Jean Simmons is adorable as Sarah, tipsy or not.

4. And the young Marlon Brando is drop-dead gorgeous as Sky.

He is such a complement to her. He enhances her performance hundredfold. That's called working for the whole scene.

Great singer. “Guys and Dolls” was a good musical! Marlin Brandon was so handsome.

I was amazed to see Jean Simmons at the Groucho when I worked there, I’ve also done guys and dolls playing Harry the horse

I could listen to this on repeat all day. This entire soundtrack is perfect. Brings back good memories of raising my daughter. We would listen to this all the time when she was little.

When Brando could still play a nice guy persuasively (well, deep down Detroit was okay) and when he was prepared to go outside his comfort zone, not yet enwrapped in portentuousness and self-doubt. It was 'One Eyed Jacks' that condemned him to self-parody, though there are tantalising glints of self-mockery in 'Mutiny on the Bounty' and a weird flash of the old young man's charm right at the end of 'Last Tango in Paris'.

Unused to booze, accustomed to bawling hymns in the street as a Salvation Army songstress, Jean Simmons turns her vocal limitations into a deft piece of characterization.

We did this musical in High School and watched this movie as inspiration. I fell in love with it.
P.S. I played Sky. ☺️

I played Sarah in my high school musical many many many moons ago. :) Everyone says they want to play Adelaide but to me Sarah is a million times deeper and more intense to play well.

When I was very young I have watched the film which is The Young Lion. I was really into marlon at that time. It reminds me marlon in The Young Lion.
