as soon as the sdi expansion module is available i’ll be buying 2 of these. i’m really wanting to pair this with my fs5’s powered by a core swx d tap battery. i basically do that now with the inferno but it’s too large for my run n gun situations. assuming this draws less power than the inferno as well not only will my rig be lighter but i should be getting longer battery life as well. i’m really excited for this product and thank you for the review.

Erik, you are one of the few video reviewers I trust. Here is some issues you should know. This comes from someone who's had one for a month and used in on personal and professional shoots.
1) the Ninja V will not output to Teradek Bolt or Serv Pro, Vaxis, Ikan or Small HD 503. The list keeps growing. This is a serious issue as it makes the NV useless with the most popular brands of wireless transmitters and if you need wireless HD (steadicam, pro gimbal work, cranes, vehicle work, client work, etc). 
2) It doesn't monitor full DCI 4k but crops left/right (about 10%) making critical framing impossible at DCI 4k. 
3) It's almost impossible to get the menu swipe to work in 4k DCI. I've sent tickets and have no response.
4) Atomos has yet to respond

This may not effect your style of shooting but severely limits professional use.

Great Rundown. I Recently purchased a Panasonic S1, not knowing that the Camera doesn't support Trigger or Timecode out Via HDMI. Therefore I cant trigger recording on my Ninja V without physically touching the Unit itself. I was thinking I could Possibly use a LanC connection, but Atomos only supports Sony/Canon LanC out.( Per specifications) do you know of a product I could Mount to my rig and Trigger NinjaV recording via external Remote. Thanks!

Aww man, the brightness would’ve been really useful to show. For many of us, it’s the only reason to buy this. This is coming from an inferno and sumo owner, so I’m not slighting the other cool features.

Is it me? Why is the Atomos Ninja V quirky when it comes to audio playback? Before and during recording audio levels are visible in the display. However once clips are recorded, there is no way to hear audio of the recorded video. Yet, audio is heard on the camera sd card? Further, when pulling the clips off the SSD drive into the computer, no audio is heard in Quicktime. The only time audio of Ninja V recorded clips can be heard is when the clips are played in an NLE. Then, it's revealed that even though clips are monitored on Ch1 & Ch2, they are recorded on ch3 & ch4. Yup. audio clips cannot be played back on the tracks they are recorded from. Damn inconvenient to have to pull the SSD card out of the Ninja to be certain of the audio. Spoke to Atomos at PhotoExpo today, but no one could really speak to the issue. Is this normal for Atomos recorders? Is there a workaround?

Anyone knows who to unlock flip screen mode in Ninja V? The reason for this is The HDMI input plug which I need closer to camera plugs with vlog mode. Much appreciated.

can i simply record, , and then play, , , no computers, , , input log 10bit 4k, , , and play out to tv, , , as full hdr 10bit 4k... a quick log to hdr on the fly converter, , , full 2020 and 2084, , , possible or not...pls...

Thank you for this quick review of the Ninja V, I’ve had my eye on it since NAB 2018. I’m trying to fully understand ProRes and the benefits of it but my question here is if we’re able to shoot with it with a (Sony A7 lll). You’re the first video that i’ve seen with an A7 lll and the ninja V so I was hoping to get feedback from you. Thanks for making this video and I hope to hear from you soon.
