UPD.: I see a lot of rumors about privacy and security issues. Of course I don't suggest you to convert any files with personal information or files that could contain malware (even .doc or .rtf files). But if you want to convert a single image file - I think it's more convenient to use these websites, especially for those who don't know how to use command line.

well yes and no, iirc, ffmpeg is a package/library which means it isn't mandatory for it to be preinstalled on your system. correct me if i'm missing info, though.

Converting pdf files to text is not exactly a trivial process. In some cases you can have text embedded into images, hence you will need some kind of ai to detect that text. If you have a simple text pdf then you cqn do that with no matter which tool, but if it get's too comolicated it might be worth to try a paid alternative.

The real problem here is the UX. I'm not willing to google stuff twice just to convert my file, and I couldn't memorize every command needed for it, yeah alias is useful but when I need to add more args it just sucks to google stuff again

girl, here we see the fundamental issue with command line tools and why they suck the big one for simple one time tasks. If I need to convert a file I don't yet know the syntax, what options I have, what arguments I need to pass ahead of time. And in the time it takes me to figure this shit out, I could have just done it with an online converter.
