Epic Star Trek Studio Scale Model Builds!

Former ILM Modelshop modelmaker John Eblan walks us through his latest builds for Factory Entertainment's FE Masterworks line of studio scale Star Trek ships: the USS Enterprise 1701-E as seen in Star Trek: First Contact and the USS Reliant from The Wrath of Khan! We catch up with John at San Diego Comic-Con to discuss his process in building these museum-quality pieces and how his modelmaking process has evolved in over a decade of making these unique collectibles.

Thank you Norm for finding John over the years at SDCC. John Eblan is an amazing builder, I own several of his builds over the years. Thank you John for being there for us. I am a huge Star Trek Original Series fan. Yet love all that followed. I own a few of these builds because they bring joy to my life and provide fond memories of my childhood. People travel, buy electronics, fancy cars and homes... I invest in my family and my dreams. It has done well for me in life. Star Trek taught me what is possible, if we can only imagine it. It teaches us to explore the unknown and most importantly how to be human.

It's crazy to see how technology has let replicas this detailed be made- well that and obviously a crazy, amount of skill and experience.

The Sovereign-class is tied with the refit Constitution-class for my favorite ship. That model is gorgeous, but I'd love to see them bring the Nemesis version to life or, even better, the post-Nemesis refit.
