After being inspired to clear out my wardrobe, I realized I made a huge minimalist mistake, and have some minimalism regrets. I got rid of all of my basics. I tried out a premium box styling service, Dailylook, to see if a stylist could help me invest in some solid pieces! Let me know which pieces were your favorite. This is a list of all the clothes that would be good to have in your closet and basics along with stores to find them at and at the very bottom outfit ideas! I left our dresses and skirts because it looks like you have quite a bit of those 💕😄 It took me almost 2 hours to make this and I think it would be the perfect guide for anytime who wants to know what the basics to a closet is.

Jackets:
* Leather Jacket (Thrift store, Marshall’s, American Eagle, Nordstrom’s rack, TJ Max. These can be pretty expensive but I got a Free people leather jacket at Marshall’s for $60! So I would definitely go to rack stores first.)
* Jean Jacket (Thrift store, Forever 21, Target, Nordstrom’s Rack, American Eagle, Levi’s. These are some stores to buy them from but I’m pretty sure there could be many more! These can also be more expensive but they are defiantly a staple!)
* Puffer Jacket (Patagonia, North Face. These are about $160 and they are amazing! I live in California so it gets down to 40 degrees sometimes and it works perfectly! It’s really a jacket that you will need to just keep warm on a cold night. This is really the only Jacket I wouldn’t try and Thrift because getting a jacket that is made from real down or feathers is pretty important for staying warm!)
* Hoodie (Tourist shops, thrift stores, pretty much anywhere! These are obviously a staple because they can be thrown over any shirt!)
* Knitted Sweater (Nordstrom’s rack, TJ max, American Eagle) this is just a staple because you always see people with their Uggs and a comfy grey knitted sweater! It’s perfect for winter and fall.)
* Cardigan (American Eagle, Kohl’s, Forever 21, Nordstrom’s rack, almost anywhere! These are perfect to dress things up with a nice shirt and high heels, or keep it casual with jeans and converse.)
* Blazer (Nordstrom’s Rack, Burlington, TJ Max, Forever 21. If you don’t really want to spend that much money on business clothes forever 21 is actually a great place to find some! This is for work meetings or dressier events! I would get a black blazer to start since they are timeless and match with almost anything)

Pants:
* Jeans or Jean shorts (American Eagle, Garage, Forever 21, basically anywhere! I like getting skinny jeans because they can go with looser shirts or tighter shirts. They always are in style and are just perfect for any outfit and work with any kinds of shoes!)
* Flowy Pants: (Hollister, American Eagle, Target, Tilly’s, Macy’s these can have a striped pattern on it like what’s in style right now or can just be the plain army green color or black.)
* Sweatpants (Gap, Hollister, almost anywhere! These are perfect for staying at home or going out and they are comfy and warm! What’s not to love? 😄)
* Dress Pants: (Burlington, Nordstrom’s Rack, TJ Max, Forever 21) for business causal events or places that you can’t wear jeans or leggings too!
* Leggings: (Lululemon, Aloe yoga, Carbon 21, Nike, Gap) perfect for matching with anything! I would recommend getting a plain black pair.

Shirts:
* Tank tops: (you can get these anywhere! But I love Hollister, Gap, and Target perfect for pairing with patterned pants, skirts, jackets, under sweatshirts just in case you dont want to wear nothing under it 😂, anything! This is really an essential!)
* Blouses (American Eagle, Hollister, Nordstrom’s Rack, Kohl’s) for dress pants, business events, or one with a patterns to pair with jeans and high heels or sandals for a nicer look)
* T-shirt (anywhere! I like Hollister it’s it’s a basic again and you can get solid colors to pair with anything like skinny jeans, any jackets, and patterned pants)!
* Graphic Tees (Hollister, American Eagle, Macy’s, Thrifted, TJ Max, Kohl’s, almost anywhere. This is perfect to pair with jeans or any plain outfit to spice it up)
* Long sleeve (Anywhere really! But they are perfect basics that can be plain to have a pattern!)
* Thermal Tees (Nike, Hollister, Gap, or a sports store that sells clothes. This is for us you want to be extra warm since thermals help keep in the body heat more!)

Outfit ideas:
* Leggings, sweatshirt, Jean jacket over with, boots or converse or vans type shoes
* Skinny jeans, knitted sweater, with boots or converse or vans type shoes
* Skinny jeans, tank top, cardigan, with high heels or high-heeled sandals.
* Leather jacket, skinny jeans, and to add a feminine touch pair with a girly dress blouse, t-shirt, or tank top.
* Graphic Tee, leggings or jeans, with a cardigan, Jean jacket, or leather jacket)

To be honest if I were you I’d just go to Target on a strict BASICS that make me happy mission. Jeans, a black pair of cigarette pants, some plain but flattering long sleeve shirts, plain t shirts and a few solid cardigans, maybe a few SOLID blouses. You could check out “bullet wardrobes” on Pinterest to get an idea as of what basics you need to compliment your current wardrobe. Mix and match!

You are taking this the right way: as an opportunity to think on your next purchases! Now when you buy new things you can pair them, or pair with the things you already have. I'm don't have a huge wardrobe, but seeing these videos I started thinking that I have things that I don't use as much as I could, because they don't look like me, or I cannot pair them with something else. I don't throw away stuff, and I always try to use them until they are destroyed, and if not, I donate to someone who will make a better use of it. So I decided two things for my wardrobe: 1- I will buy new things only if I need, not just because I want and 2 - if I need to buy something, it will be as neutral and basic as it can be. I just love your videos! <3. I would keep the black shirt, black jeans ( I personally like to combine one loose piece with one tight, like the black blouse with a tighter version of these same pants) and the green cardigan! I love how this long pieces look on taller people.

The cardigans are the only pieces worth keeping. That red jacket is fun an all but literally everything in your wardrobe is fun, you don't need more fun. I think the pockets on that red jacket being so shallow is reason enough to say no to it. The black top could be fine if you get a proper fit, looks too big for you. The weird blazer is also a huge no. That is not even close to basic. It's too "trendy" and not even professional looking. I also don't think it would pair well with the fun stuff you already have. The dress is also super unnecessary. You already have dresses and if you are going to get more dresses, you should get sweater dresses, tee shirt dresses, or basic simple black dresses. You should definitely get some jeans that fit. You should have black jeans, dark wash, and light wash. Skinny jeans are not really so fashionable anymore but they're perfect if you like to wear tall boots. Straight leg jeans tend to look more chic and look great with heeled shoes. Mom jeans or boyfriend jeans are great for casual wear and look really cute with flat shoes. High waisted jeans also tend to be more flattering and comfortable. You could also try some cropped jeans and jean shorts.... You definitely need some basic denim shorts. I tend to prefer either black or light wash when it comes to shorts... Dark wash shorts just don't tickle my fancy but I think that might be a personal preference. White denim is also super cool if you're willing to take that risk... Oh while we're on denim. You need a denim jacket. A simple, basic, light wash or white denim jacket. Corduroy is also cool. Some high waisted khaki corduroy shorts could pair nicely with some of your fun tops. You do also seriously need simple straight leg black and khaki(or cream) slacks. You need blazers too. A black blazer is always good for looking professional and a cream or tan blazer can be really cute when you want to look dressed up but casual at the same time. You also need a million white and black and grey tee shirts and tank tops. You don't actually have to have a million all at once, but you should have those items at all times to make getting dressed easier. Also try looking for some monochromatic skirts. Like a black or camel skater skirt, pencil skirt and even more maxi skirts. Flowy maxi skirts are wonderful creations. You can get a simple black, cobalt, tan, or cream or red to pair with any crop top with sandals. Anyway, I could go on and on but here's my main thing that I can say. Write down these basic items, make a list, go shopping and stick to that list. Don't subscribe to a service like this if you really just want basics. The only subscription you would need if you want basics is a monthly white tee shirt subscription.

Definitely that gray cardigan and the green jacket, you seemed to really like those. The black tank at the end for sure, the black blazer could pass as a 3/4 sleeve blazer and would look really cute over your dresses. I like owning a pair of black jeans, they go with everything, but if you don't like those specific ones you can always go searching for a pair on your own. The cool thing is, black, gray, and the color green they sent you are all relatively neutral and can be paired with a lot.

The cardigans are good. The grey, green, and black hi-lo cardigan look super comfy. The black jeans, while slightly big, might work for the winter bc you will be layering them over thermal underwear. The black off the shoulder tank is nice, basic, multi-seasonal, and would probably pair with a lot of what you have. The red jacket is cute, but if you don't like the pocket situation, you might not wear it enough to be worth it.

A few good pairs of jeans in dark blue, medium blue, and black, maybe a couple different cuts, like straight leg, boyfriend cut, skinny jeans, etc.
Basic tanks/camisoles in black and white, maybe a nude, navy, grey, and then a fun color that you would wear.
Basic t-shirts (long & short sleeved) in the above colors.
A basic black hoodie (or grey or navy) and maybe a cropped or more fitted hoodie in white, nude/tan, cream to pair with your crop tops at night when it can get a bit chilly.
You can't go wrong with a black, charcoal, or navy blazer, you could even wear it with your jeans and tank or tee shirt and a pair of booties (low boots) or dress it up with jewelry, a blouse, a scarf, etc and pair it with some strappy heels.
Also, besides jeans, you should get a pair of khaki pants, a pair of black slacks, and maybe some navy slacks that you can pair with your blazers. Maybe some olive or camel pants and get some flowy pieces and some more basic pieces, even capris. And a couple of pencil skirts. A few pairs of shorts.

Also, with your eye & hair color, I think plum, forest green, teal, baby pink, and a more raspberry pink would look really good on you.

When it comes down to it, think basic like something you would find at Forever21, Old Navy, gap, banana republic, American Eagle, Aeropostale, Buckle, Asos, Walmart, Target, etc. You don't have to purchase from those stores, but they do have a lot of basic pieces to give you an idea of what you're looking for.

I hope it helps! good luck!

I really like the first cardigan you showed, black cardigan and black blazer. The black shirt is also really cute. I think all these items would go well with your current wardrobe and really compliment a lot of pieces you already own. The black pants would be a bonus if they fit correctly/comfortably as well

I made a similar mistake. I kept my unique clothing, but the thing is I am a stay at home person so my clothing doesn't suit my lifestyle. I plan on investing in a few gots organic clothing items that are comfortable around the house and look good if I need to go out. Not to sound like I am your mum but my advice is truly keep what you 100 percent love. Even those lovely cardigans with no pockets if you think that it is going to bother you further down the road having no pockets then send them back to and just invest in what you love that is also practical.

I would keep the grey and green cardigans as they can go with anything and be versatile. As well as the black tank top, the flowy cut is actually really flattering on you! It is easy to wear and is also versatile and professional. It would look great tucked into some of your shorts and more loose pants without looking like fashionable pjs.
If you could get the pants in your size I would also go with those as you can never go wrong. Alternatively if you have the chance to go to an Old Navy they have the most amazing Pixie Pants which are professional and comfortable! And they have tall sizes as well.
Hope this helps! I love clothes and finding fun unique pieces, even if they are considered "basics" .

The first tan sweater is cute, the green one you like, and that last plain black cardigan. The rest are okay. When it comes to basics it's safe sticking to a few key colors that compliment your skin. At first try some safe basic colors like tan, black, and white.
The basics make your happy statement clothes have contrast.
Think of your body as your blank canvas as you would your face with no make up. When you do your make up you're creating balance. If you put on big sparkly eyeshadow and cat eyeliner you usually wouldn't pair that with a bold lip, you would pair it with a nude. That same balance applies to creating outfits.
I hope this helps! You're so amazing and beautiful either way! 😊

Hi Cassandra, really love how honest and relatable you are! I too have this problem and have made it a 2019 goal to have a minimalistic wardrobe instead. I've been checking Pinterest lately for capsule wardrobe guides and I think it's a great help in understanding how to mix and match, what colors look good on me, the fit I should look for based on my body type...

I would keep everything, except the ballon dress and the red jacket.

Definitely keep the first oatmeal coloured cardigan and the green cardigan, simply because they clearly made you happy! Keeping with the only have things in your closet that being you joy, that should absolutely be taken into account with new things you purchase. The pants actually look really nice on you but if they are stretchy and you feel like they're already on the verge of too big, they will absolutely stretch and definitely be too big.

If I were you, i would visit a local thrift store that you like and look for basics there. Lots of people do the same thing as you can donate basics that are basically brand new because they were a basic they didn't think much of.

Grey sweater, green cardigan, basic black cardigan, off the shoulder black baggy shirt and boyfriend black jeans. Just my opinion, but I'm not super stylish. Thanks 💗💗💗
