In Iran, A Village Among Volcanic Rocks

At first glance, the village of Kandovan in Iran looks like simply a surreal rock formation. But as you get closer, you see doors and windows and people. The village is full of cave-like dwellings carved out of volcanic rocks in the foothills of Mount Sahand. People have been living here for 700 years, walking through alleys and climbing stairwells amidst rocks that look like they are melting.

Fun fact : the original name wasn't kandovan so the explanation about beehive is not correct (though it's the correct meaning). It was originally "goon doqan" which means "where the sun is born". After years they changed it to a simpler name, "kandovan". Around 800 people still live there

I was born in Iran, but at the age of 8 my mother took my sister and I to England. I have watched about nearly all videos based on Iran- wishing I would go there on day.
