Mortal Engines is the startling, new epic adventure directed by Oscar®-winning visual-effects artist Christian Rivers (King Kong). Joining Rivers are The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogies three-time Academy Award®-winning filmmakers Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, who have penned the screenplay. Visual effects are created by a Weta Digital team led by Ken McGaugh, Kevin Smith, Luke Millar and Dennis Yoo. The Universal and MRC adaptation is from the award-winning book series by Philip Reeve, published in 2001 by Scholastic.

Without her monstrous appearance, the way people interact with her and the way she interacts with them wont make any sense. You had a chance to redefine what female leads can be in the eyes of main stream movie goers, but you chose the easy, safe road. Ironically, she will be less digestible to the audience without her true appearance, and the money you saved on CGI will be lost many times over in the long run if her actor cant manage to pull off a miracle. Im so tired of how bland and normalised everything is these days. Shaped and moulded into easy bite sized chunks for the average joe so you can maximise $$$. I know most people wont have read the books so it wont matter to them, but this movie and the whole series could have been so so much more. Sad times

They at least seem to be staying mostly true to her character. The scar is a bit easier to forgive.

I just can't wait to see Shrike(Or Grike for you yanks)! That's going to be the coolest part of this movie. We have yet to see him at all, he is such an interesting character and I hope they nail him perfectly for the story.

I get excited for the more promotional material I see. Hester Shaw will be a heroine to definitely watch out for this December. I really can't wait to see the film as someone whose been anticipating the film since reading the book(s).

Honestly the more I see of this movie the less I have to complain about. I was annoyed by her scar at first but I find myself able to forgive it with how everything else looks!

Toning down the scar isn't a big deal for me. Tyrion from Game of Thrones had his injury reduced to a scar instead of disfigurement. Honestly, imagine how much time the poor girl would have to be in make-up every day to make her look as hideous as the character from the books.

I believe Peter Jackson should make a movie on Pennyroyal's books he made.. About all the lies such as. "The young woman.. Her named seemed to be Hester Shaw was deeply in love with Pennyroyal." That's my favorite lie from him. Everytime I hear it i'm like PFFFTFTFTFTFTT

It's interesting that the marketing for this film is almost entirely based around Hester. Not the Traction Cities, not Tom, the actual main character who's played by a more recognizable actor and is barely in the marketing. I wonder why this is.
