Another excelent review. I walk all day as a preschool teacher and this is a really great advice before investing in good comfortable shoes. Thank you!

Great video! My recommendation is you should try Gaviota 5. They are more cushioned than the Arahi and more stable than the Clifton. Gaviota 5 is way more plush (and less hard and less stability) than the Gaviota 4. You shouldn’t depend on the website recommendation for “moderate” stability, they don’t even use that rating anymore for any currently existing shoes. The only downside of Gaviota 5 is it might not be perfect if you want a super nimble, responsive, and lightweight stability running shoe (for that try the Saucony tempus but it’s hard and not plush). But I like walking and running in my Gaviota 5s and i enjoy them more than my Arahi.

Definitely like your review. It's easy to understand for a non-pro runner like me. Most of the reviewers are pro marathon runners and it's hard for me to catch up and understand those runner terms

Great info, thanks. For my foot, the Arahi works better for me. I need the pronation support, which the Clifton doesn't have. Also, I'm not a runner. I do daily walks instead.

At running warehouse, filtering for moderate stability and medium cushioning, the Brooks Glycerin GTS 21 and PUMA ForeverRun Nitro were two of the top choices that, on top of having those two attributes, are on sale for a little over $100. Godspeed!

I also don't have flat feet, but still need mild pronations support. I think Clifton is a neutral shoe while Arahi has pronation support.

As far as I know, the Clifton is totally unfit for sprint. Like Brooks Glycerine, Nike Invincible or Saucony Trimph, H.C. is made for sessions of long distance run. If you run for 60+ minutes, once or twice a week they would be perfect, then you should switch shoes for other (and faster) workout sessions. I own a pair of Hoka Rincon3, which are both reactive and comfy although I feel they are not the best for my long distance Sunday run. H.R.3 reminds me my (beloved) Brooks Levitate 2, although it is a bit more comfy. If you look for Hoka models which are more reactive, you ought to look for Mach or Rincon. If you have the chance to try both Rincon 3 and 4, you'll see the latter is just another planet. I bought R3 becuase i felt it much better than R4. I came across Hoka brand last Dec. while was in Dubai. I saw so many Hoka shoes inside any stores that I was a bit curious to try them. However, I remain a big fan of Brooks. I used Ghost and Levitate for years and found them amazing.

So sorry I purchased the Hoka Arahi 7! The toe box is very narrow and we’re killing my big toes to where I couldn’t walk . I’ve only wore them a few times in the 60 days that I’ve had them and now can’t return them. DONT but these unless you have very narrow feet.

I TOTALLY agree with you!! The Arahi is an awesome stability shoe, but definitely does not work for speedwork for me. Which is great because I'm a slow, long distance runner. I'm wearing my Cliftons for the Chi Marathon, and I know my feet will thank me.

If you're looking for something in between them, try Brooks Glycerin GTS 21. It has stability and the cushion isn't that plush.

Everyone has a different experience with sneakers. Personally, for me, the Hoka Clifton 9 is the best running and walking shoe for warm, dry days, while the Clifton 9 GTX is for wet, cold days. I also have the Arahi 6, which I can't complain about, but it's not the best feeling. Everyone finds a pair of sneakers that fit them best.I have had a positive experience with New Balance, some Asics, and Mizuno, but number one would be Brooks, from which I have used and still use the Ghost 15 and Trace 2. I bought the new Ghost 16 GT that I have yet to test. At the end, I would suggest you try the Rincon 3 from Hoka, I think they are in the range you are looking for.

Dunno if anyone's pointed it out before me in the comments, but personally, I don't find it comfortable to walk in running shoes at all. Running shoes are generally just for running, from my experience, so if you're looking for something that would be good for both walking and doing some casual running, then perhaps you would find solace in some "lifestyle" range products. Just a thought!

Trust and believe the shoe you looking for are the arahi 6. The new arahi 7 is far less Cushioning then that arahi 6 but the not too soft like the Clifton 9. Not sure why they changed it. But the 6 vs the 7 are very different… the arahi 6 are the perfect model that’s right in between the Clifton 9 and arahi 7

I made the same mistake,
Looking forward to buying the Clifton

Are the Cliftons as hard as the Arahi 7’s? I tried the Arahi 7’s for a 8 mile run, and quite at 3 miles. They are just too stiff. I’m a heel striker, and the heel just felt too hard.

Great review, thanks! Have been curious about Hoka shoes lately. How did they feel in the toe area? Was there room to spread toes laterally, or was the area narrow? Thanks!

I also have both of these shoes as well as bondi 8. Bondi is too restrictive given the fact it’s a stability shoe and locks your movement, I just got Clifton 9 & so far this shoe provides much more mobility as far as the flexibility goes, versus Arahi or bondi. I have a question tho, I’m recovering from 5th metatarsal fracture and was wondering if you know if Clifton 9 is a good support for that side of the foot. I know that bondi 8 is but it’s just too heavy and immobilizing, very clunky shoe.
