Stopped watching after a few minutes; the castles shown weren't for sale. Why the misleading title??

Tiffany Castle has been renovated and occupied.

This video was misleading and disappointing. From the title, you would think this would be a video about castles FOR SALE. Only 3 were for sale at one time. Most were privately owned, tourist attractions, owned by the government or protected historical locations. This channel should be called "Bait and Switch".

I don't care that they're not for one dollar. An actual human voice ! Usually I have to turn down the volume on castle sites just to get to see them. I liked it ! 😊

I visited Burg Eltz while I was stationed in Germany during the mid to late 70s. At the time it was owned, as were most of the castles along the Rhine, by the German National Historical Trust. Unlike most of the other castles in the Rhine area, Burg Eltz was NOT built along the shore of the Rhine or the overlooking hillsides. It was open to the public with regular tours.

Casa Loma is in excellent condition inside. I actually went there when I was overdue with my first baby to try to start my labour by traipsing up & down all the stairs into the towers. There is a swimming pool underneath it that is unavailable (used during ww II) & a tunnel that goes to the carriage house just down the road. It has massive rooms & you can tour it daily. There is a cafeteria & gift shop on the lowest available level. Catering have a big kitchen on the main level for functions. Evenings have social occasions ie, weddings, Christmas parties, holiday parties etc. It is a fun place to visit & schools from all over the greater Toronto area bring bus loads of children to tour it during the school year. As for being haunted….whatever. Nothing is really ever mentioned on it at any time. You pay to enter, money used for upkeep & maintenance. Also sports a huge pipe organ in the main entry hall. I lost count how many times I visited it, it’s been over a couple of decades now. Fun spot if you enjoy castles.

As one now living at "Castilla" (The land of castles) none of the shown above seem to be medieval castles, but palaces.
A real castle was built from stone and for war. Thick high walls, robust towers, saeteras(narrow openings for the archers) instead of windows, as few external openings as possible and a main double door for the cavalry. Everything protected with iron bar grids and iron riveted thick and heavy oak closings.
Inside, appart from the militar facilities and a yard for practicing, rooms are dark and cold with fireplaces everywhere. There's ussually a main lounge which fire place, as well as that of the kitchen, can be as big as one of our normal rooms.
From nowadays point of view, interesting to be visited but not a comfortable place for living.
Anyway if compared with the very rustic cabins where villians live, castles were the best of the best at those times.
About their location, castles were always built at strategic locations easily defensible, hardly accesible and with clear open view of the sorroundings as far as possible.

The title is very misleading, as many of the castles are not for sale - eg the Castle of the Cape of Good Hope in Cape Town which has been a government building since it was first built, and has been in constant use.

people would pay to be wrapped in a gimp suit and whipped what do you mean nobody would pay a dollar for real estate that's practically free real estate

Casa Loma is one of the first buildings in Toronto built on a steel frame. Very little of the stone work is actually structural

That one castle could not have been built by sir thomas more as he died in 1535.

Burg Eltz was saved from destruction by the French because someone - can't remember the name - in Louis XIV's service had grown up in the shadow of Burg Eltz and took it off the list of Castles and fortifications destined to be slighted.
Many other places weren't so lucky.

Nice views, but I do not think any of these castles would be for sale.

What I recall about Casa Loma, which was also the home of Lord Baden Powell of Boy Scout fame, is that in the library, there were fake books cut down and placed on shelves for show, and there was a swimming pool in the basement that was never completed. All in all, the richness of this so-called castle was ... skin deep, but the same could be said about Schön Brun and Versailles, where the glitter was not much in the way of gold. In any event, the best part of castles was always the back parts that were not on show, because it showed the reality of life in their respective eras.
